Treliving may very well have swapped Dougie Hamilton for a 35-40 point top four d-man and a 90 point top two way winger that does everything, the way things are shaking out. Quite the acquisition.

Plus adding about, what, 40 extra points to Gio, who doesn’t have to cover for Hamilton?

So that makeshift Backlund line did pretty alright
Tkachuk - Monahan - Bennett
Gaudreau - Backlund - Lindholm
tomorrow?

When he was drafted the name that came up from the organization was Cogliano.
Personally I always saw a lot of Cammalleri in his game at lower levels... stocky build, great shooting ability with an ability to find open ice. Not sure that's quite as clear playing with Hathaway at the NHL level. But I think he is already showing he's not just a 4th liner.
I think his ceiling is pretty undefined at this point. Just watch him develop and see where he goes. I see it a lot these days where guys like Marchand and Kucherov just continue to blow their former ceilings away every single year. So I'm not sure I like putting ceilings on players because of how much skill guys seem to add into their mid 20s. I think the culture of playing on teams with great leaders like Chara and Giordano can't be underestimated.

For the record I am patient with Neal. I am just really excited about Mangiapane and Czarnik. Best case scenario Neal takes Frolik's spot and plays to his potential, and Frolik takes Hathaway's spot and those two split 12th forward duties during a healthy playoffs.
I want former 40 goal scorer James Neal to win a Cup here and contribute to that Cup

Man, the depth of this team this year is awesome.

I 100% agree with this. When the Flames drafted him, I thought he was almost a waste of a pick, and was going to be a career AHL'er. When he got to the AHL, I started thinking that there might be something there after all, and he has legitimate upside. Then I saw him last year and half of this year, and felt he was so easily replaceable.
Mangiapane is helping the Flames win. Not just the odd time he scores now, but he seriously makes strong plays on almost every shift out there, and he seemingly never takes his foot off the gas. He's an NHL'er, and I believe he is capable of quite a bit more as his development progresses. Will be fun to watch how good he becomes, and what his role will be. His development so far reminds me of Paul Byron... but has out-scored Byron at every comparable level at comparative ages. I am definitely paying attention to this kid a lot more again, and I am becoming a big fan of what he is bringing every night. He is on a trajectory right now to become a more offensive player than Paul Byron, which should make people (like me) who thought it was a mistake to waive Byron that year happy again.

Watched 2nd and 3rd with my classmates, with pizza and lots of alcohol. The best way to watch a game other than at the Dome. It did get a bit heated discussing Treliving's deadline performance, I admit. But man, what a game by Smith! Just got home... Did I miss the ATL report?

I do. I drive over to my parents house after the game and sneak into their basement while they’re asleep and call the Fan using their landline.

I haven't heard any whispers of "Backlund for the Selke" yet. He is in a 3-way tie for 2nd in +/- at +30 (Giordano is in first at +31, and Lindholm is tied with Backlund). He is also producing at a higher rate lately.
I am actually surprised the Selke talk hasn't included Backlund at all this year.

Sounds like a less popular sequel to a certain Robert Munsch Book.

Backlund's goal is ludicrous. How hard he got that shot away with such a short release is unreal.
