He's more like Yakupov. Has all the tools, but is a lazy player who may be even dumber than Nail.
His apparent refusal to really learn English is weird as well.

So last year, McDavid played through the flu, a parasitic infection of his brain, acute radiation sickness, upset stomach, diarrhea, space rabbies, hypothetical cancer of the soul, ebola and the screaming needle pee. He played through it while bravely tapping people on the shoulders and whispering "Lets Go"
The purest sign that the Oilers are tanking

Bet he doesn't play tomorrow.

Forget Poolparty -- I wonder how even McLottery and Draisaitl have both been negatively impacted by the Oilers lack of development. You might not think of it given where they are in the scoring race, but think of how good they could (should?) be:
McDoubleshift is getting by on skating and offence, but has to coast on defence because he's playing 25 minutes a night. As such, his 200 foot game (as well as his faceoffs) hasn't really improved compared to someone like Crosby.
Draisaitl can score a ton off the wing, but he was originally a centre and hasn't been given the opportunity to develop in that role (kind of like how Monahan was given sheltered minutes as a 3C in his rookie year, before moving up to 2C in 2014/15 and eventually becoming the garbageman 1C that we know and love). As soon as Draisaitl goes back to centre, the scoring dries up and they immediately throw him back on McDavid's wing.
Something in the water indeed...

For an older GM its the perfect job lol. At least three years of just looking like you are trying to fix it before anyone bats an eye....."can't fix a train wreck overnight".

Oilers line up after 17 top 40 picks in the last decade... without McDavid, that roster just pops as 'step above beer league' caliber

A farm team having a good record doesn't mean a thing.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... didn't we get the great Jimmy Playfair as head coach based on his sparkling success with that team?

Or a fourth line? Outside of RNH and Drai, would any other player even make the Flames lineup?

Looks like one decent to below average second line, one "worst in the league" fourth line, and a bunch of scrubs that should not be in the NHL.
As for the defense, I don't see a single guy that would replace any of the top 7 D in Calgary, given age/skill/contract status if you count Valimaki (or Oscar) as the 7th D (and not Stone or Prout).
And that putrid lineup is at the cap, and will be for a couple more years at least.
Not sure about 'in the water' but there is something on the ice, and I'm pretty sure it is feces.

Today's Spec article is about how underrated Ryan Nothing-Happens is. According to Gagner, is the most underrated player.
So there's that now too.

I count one 1st liner, one 2nd liner, 5 4th liners, and 5 AHL players (that's being generous too)

They were atrocious. They basically threw on everyone who had any talent and pulled the goalie and hoped for the best and they got the goal against a tired team with fewer aces.
But they're the King of the World now!
Oh...and they still lost. Against a team they're chasing. They're just celebrating that the gap didnt widen as much as it could have.

It says a lot that that lineup is deeper at defence than it is forward.
And the defence is as deep as a leaky kiddie pool.

A pretty good player yes. But this year might be the first year in at least a couple that you MIGHT take him over Backlund, if they had the same contract. So let’s not jump overboard.

Man, every Flames bottom 6 except maybe Hathaway (but maybe even him) would be a top 6 on that roster.

I think Derek Ryan has been just as good since the turn of the calendar, and he centers our fourth line.
His moniker is "Nothing-Happens" for a reason.
