No, I would compare him more to Martin St Louis. Not as talented, obviously, but the same, feisty, determined drive, and hard to knock off the puck. Obviously isn't big and isn't going to intimidate anyone, but at the same time, he is mentally tough and no one intimidates him either.
He isn't a defensive specialist, but uses his speed effectively. And on Backlund's line, would provide a solid two-way game. And add much needed speed to the line.

With Zucarello, Gaudreau and Tkachuk, there would be no shortage of savvy playmakers on the team. Not to mention that Lindholm and Monahan are also above average playmakers.
Yet none of them are all purely just playmakers, but they can covert goals well too.
I do think we could use more size though, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at Zucarello for the right price.

He can be a little dirty. The thing you notice is he makes plays quickly - not just his speed but moving it quick, so he reads/anticipates very well.
He’s sturdy and can protect the puck but he won’t wear the opponent down, I don’t think, in a war of attrition

20 2nd + Czarnik for Zuccarello
19 1st + 20 1st + Frolik + Mangiapane for Stone
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Stone
Bennett - Jankowski - Zuccarello
Dube - Ryan - Hathaway
Switch Hathaway with Neal to play with Ryan when he is healthy for the playoffs.

Do we have enough cap space this season for that?

We can fit a fair bit, but I believe we could also throw Michael Stone on LTIR retroactively back to what? November?
Then if Neal goes to LTIR as well...yeah we could manage a fair bit of incoming cap I believe, plus there's always retention
Wizards always find a way.

Probably shouldn't call Mangiapane "nothing". He's off to quite an impressive start to his pro career.
And the 2nd + prospect is the price quoted by the "insiders" on Zuccarello.

Didn’t he put Czarnik in that trade...hence the posters ‘nothing’ Comment. Which isn’t a slight on the player, more the value the player has in a trade, if I’m putting words in his/her mouth
He put Mangiapane in the Stone trade

@adater
Hearing more chatter that Big Z (Zadorov) might be dealt.
@adater
It may be very hard to get quality top-6 forward from a contender at deadline for either Barrie or Z. Thus, Avs might just hope for first-round picks for either and dominate 1st round of draft this summer

Mangiapane is a talented player.
So its Mats Zuccarello, but it took Zuccarello until he was 26 to become a full time NHLer. He was still logging AHL games at age 24 and was in the KHL at 25.
I can understand wanting to go all-in during our first real window since Kipper/Iginla/Regehr/Langkow - but what if Mangiapane became part of a second window?
Small players often take longer to establish themselves in the NHL. A few games ago people were salivating over Mike Hoffman... a guy who once cleared waivers as 29 teams didn't feel he improved their NHL team.
Mangiapane has plenty of upside and should be treated as a valuable piece. If we trade him it should be considered a fair bit of value the other way, not just a plug 4th liner like the fanbase seems to have labelled him.
Also why I value Czarnik... I think he's a talented player who has some areas he could stand to improve with a real opportunity and the right linemates. Bennett is one of those linemates.

Zibanajad?
Just kidding, I wish. There was SportsNet story that talked about players that could move at the deadline and they included Zibanajad for the weird reason that the Rangers might want to sell high on him. I don't buy it though.

After watching the OTT game, i am really liking what i see from Dzingle...
he's only 26, would be a good fit contract wise...i'd really consider trading the 1st + to get him if re-signs here...
