How absolutely ridiculous this situation is. They are looking for young wingers, but instead of developing the ones they have anywhere close to the correct way, they destroy them and send them on their merry way for the chance to draft new ones further down in the draft with less potential. And simultaneously they refuse to sell high on a scrub like Chiasson, and will probably end up with him on a horrible contract but without the scoring. It just never ends.

You can’t legally put that into an entry level contract. They might have a handshake deal and don’t want to piss the agent off in the future but it can’t be in the contract.

Honestly, that's probably something Theo would say too to a current player, but the Flames as an organization likely doesn't condone that kind of thing and may be one of many reasons why Theo hasn't had his jersey retired.
But in Edmonton, that kind of stuff is encouraged! Hell Katz probably says it to every player who signs a new contract "Congrats kid on your first million, you only have $999 million dollars left to earn to catch up to me!". Edmonton being Edmonton.

Says who? There are lots of examples of players that have been demoted from the NHL team only to be released back to a European squad? I'm pretty sure that has to be contracted, as no team would make that move knowing they lose the player for the remainder of the year.

This is the Oilers. There is no hand shake deal that will be upheld so long as Kevin Lowe is around. Remember when Mike Comrie had to pay his way out of Edmonton after a deal was consummated between Comrie's agent and the Ducks?

So when do the Oilers run out of time trying to "hide" Sekera on that suspiciously long conditioning stint?

I’d love to buy low on Puljujarvi and turn him into a real NHLer. I’m sure it would never happen based on the rivalry but I’d take Talbot and Puljujarvi if the cost was relatively low (shouldn’t be very high right now as we’d be helping them clear cap space and Puljujarvi is never going to be anything on that team)
I’ve said it a few times but I think Tre will sign Talbot in the offseason anyways. Would love to turn him into Dubnyk 2.0

He was granted 2 more games in the AHL. Bakersfield plays tonight and tomorrow, which means he has to be back on the Oilers active roster by Tuesday, as the Oilers play the Coyotes that evening.

Did the league give a reason as to why they would let the oilers do this? I hope it wasn’t as easy as “we haven’t figured out how to fix our cap situation just yet... give us a few more days.”
I think cap circumvention is becoming way too easy these days. The Hossa condition still feels manufactured. What the oilers are doing with this Sekera problem feels like BS as well. Even if the Oilers brass told the league he’s not in game shape yet... how can he be any different than other players who are gone for extended periods of time and then come back? They don’t need extra long conditioning stints. What’s the point in having a salary cap if teams are allowed to smudge/break the rules?

I very much look forward to the transactions they're forced into making between now and then.

The conditioning stint can be extended an 2 additional games if the player and team both agree to it.

Stop it. Please no. This team does not need to inject any Oiler stink into the organization. The goal is to be better not worse.

Staple and McCurdy were talking about the gong show that has been the Oilers developing Puljujarvi during his ELC.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYQmlxY-6kQ
We'd have to acquire him via another team, a la Martin Jones to SJ via BOS, but that doesn't seem likely.
I didn't realize he's actually Swedish-born, but has Finnish parents (and identifies as Finnish). I got excited when I saw he was from Älvkarleby, Sweden, because we have a lot of Swedes. He'd feel right at home!

At this point, pretty much the entire Oilers team could be sent to the AHL for a conditioning stint.
Even backchecking Draisaitl and flyby McDavid aren't exempt.

That’s the thing Puljujarvi really doesn’t have any “Oiler stink” on him as they have basically left him in the dark and have done nothing to develop him as has been widely reported.
Puljujarvi also never asked to go to Edmonton - he deserves to be saved.
It’s also commonly known that Treliving was in on Talbot before the Oilers got him. I think Tre goes after him in free agency anyways so this would give us a window to test him out prior to that. Talbot was on the rise and played in god mode until the Oilers rode him into the ground. I think he could absolutely be a reclamation project.
Basically everyone who leaves Edmonton gets better, maybe other than Yakupov. I’d take a flyer on either of these 2 players if they came at a low price

The Flames are not in reclamation project mode, they are in win now mode. Bringing in a project in Talbot who is arguably about as useful as Mike Smith, would be nothing short of a death wish for Treliving and the team.
Two ex-oilers that have been amongst the worst NHL players at their respective positions are not going to help get this team another Stanley cup in the next year or two.
