Artemi Panarin could be injured:
Aaron Portzline tweeted : "Artemi Panarin heads off the ice, unable to put weight on his right leg."
EDIT- NM- He's back already and just had a lovely primary assist apparently.

I just wish the Flames had the cap space to sign Mark Stone during the summer.
He'd be pretty likely to sign here, because of his potential line mates, the fact that Calgary is close to his home, his brother plays on the team, other members of his family are here, and the team is good.
I also don't think he'll sign for anything too crazy (although I think he does deserve crazy money). I don't see him being very overpaid on his next contract.
But unfortunately, I can't see any plausible way that the Flames could clear up that much cap space (especially while keeping Michael Stone).
The Flames would have to lose at least two of Brodie, Frolik, Neal, Ryan, or Backlund.
Trading Brodie and Backlund would leave big holes. Ryan and Neal would cost a lot of assets to trade away.
If they did some manage it, the Flames' offense would be among the best in the league until the end of Gaudreau's contract, probably beyond.

Posted it last month and still holds true:. Tre needs to acquire an above average NHL goaltender before the trade deadline.

I suspect if Stone makes it to the market, more than one team is going to throw crazy money at him. He's that good, and a much more complete player than Panarin.

I was thinking this the other day and thought we would have been way better now and in the long haul.

What are the chances Anaheim decides to rebuild? Probably a little premature I spose but Getzlaf for a couple years would put this team over the top imo

Anaheim is in an awkward spot.
It looks like they need to rebuild, but as long as Gibson is there, it'll be hard for them to get a lottery pick.
Gibson is too young to trade, he's going to stick around.
I'm guessing they're going to retool by trading away some vets for draft picks.
They have enough young players, so might not have to do a full-on rebuild anyways.

I think that’s about right, I just have a never ending desire to get Getzlaf here because he’s who I wanted so badly in that draft. Even if they did crash all the way to the deadline I don’t think they’ll be ready to deal their franchise player.

It's awesome to watch the Ducks spiral down the crapper, but I wouldn't count them out for being able to quickly re tool their roster and bounce right back to being a pain in the ass.
They have a really good young group of Dmen and Gibson to build out from. Luckily they are being weighed down heavily by Perry and Kesler vastly under performing to their contracts.

I wouldn't be opposed to getting Getzlaf as a rental for the rest of the season, but the 2 more seasons at $8.25 million make it a no go.

Not to mention he has a no move clause and there might be 2 places he would waive it for, and Calgary wouldn't be one of them.
Pretty sure he wants to stay in SoCal regardless.

I was thinking that Frolik and another salary would have to go the other way, Stone maybe. And then this offseason I think you need to move one of Hamonic or Brodie in preparation for the Expansion draft so between those three salaries going out and a rising cap you might be able to squeeze it in for next season. I dunno, its probably not realistic anyway but ya...like I said I’ve constantly been trying to figure out a way to get him on this team regardless of how realistic it is because my brain cant let go that we didn’t draft him lol.

If Anaheim decided to move Getzlaf, and if he waived to come to Calgary, and if the Ducks agreed to take a couple of unwanted cap dumps as part of the trade, the other parts of the players going the ducks way would be huge.
This wouldn’t be the 1st plus some marginal prospects type trade, there would need to be a premium prospect leading the package, and Calgary doesn’t have that guy to give.

Yeah, and let me just be the first to say I hope none of this happens.
Getzlaf is 34 and despite being the 6th highest scorer on the Flames, would instantly be the highest paid.
If we add another core piece via trade, he should be 28 or younger IMO.

I would be up for acquiring Toffoli. The Kings want a first but not sure they would get it.
2nd 2020 + Mangiapane + Prospect for Toffoli
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Neal
Bennett-Jankowski-Toffoli
Hathaway-Ryan-Frolik
Then, Frolik can be shipped out in the off-season to recoup some of the picks (Frolik for 2nd or 3rd round pick)

Toffoli could definitely be a solid buy low candidate, so to speak.
Having an off year, but could absolutely explode if added to the Flames roster and put on a line with Tkachuk and Backlund, for example.
