Im OK with him as a rental for this year but not at a big cost which is why its highly doubtful he will end up here.

I definitely hope the Flames go after one of the more high profile forwards but if they give up their 1st I hope it is for more than a rental.

I do think we should target a player with his skillset though...and that's a fairly rare skillset. It'd definitely come down to how much Tree believes in the person, because if he believes the effort will always be there I think you take the risk with the health.

so rare that even Ferly himself can't find it some games...
don't get me wrong, i love the guy, but he was maddeningly inconsistent here... looked great for 10 games and then disappeared for 10...
the issue for me isn't the player though, its the cost in terms of both acquisition and contract versus what you get on the ice from him...
i'd be ok trading 1st and ok prospect for him with the caveat of signing him for >4.25 AVV for 5 years but any more than that is something I would pass on... No way i pay more than a 2nd for a pure rental though and that's only because i think the Flames have a real shot at being special this year... in other years, i'd pass on the rental

Bold statement:
Had the flames signed Reaves instead of Neal they would have the best record in the NHL right now.

I disagree, unless Reaves was also going to dress as our back up goalie instead of Smith. If he would have, then you're probably right.

After watching the Oilers game I’d have no issue with picking up Talbot if the cost is palatable. He made a couple of huge saves and was sewered by some AHL quality defenseman in front of him. I’d love to have him as the backup for the rest of the year and watch Oiler fans lose it when he looks good behind an actual defense.

maybe signing Talbot as a UFA would make sense, but i don't think Edmonton trades Talbot to Calgary before the deadline without inflating the asking price... nothing would look worse than Talbot playing well with Calgary after the year they have had.
it would have to be a three way trade somehow a la Hoffman landing in FLA

I’m sure this has been discussed but there’s been more chatter about Brian Boyle, could be a great fit on the Flames into the playoffs

I don't see the fit there at all. I don't even think he can crack our lineup.

Seriously? You’d rather have Mangiapane over Boyle in the playoffs?
I strongly disagree.

Bob McKenzie claims it's more likely than not that Duchene and Stone get traded.

This is great news for the Flames since Stone is obviously getting traded to us.

Simmonds:
Guy played hurt all of last year. Torn pelvis for the whole year, while also battling a broken ankle and torn ligaments in his hand. In this so called down-year, he still managed 24 goals in 75 games. His numbers aren't great this year, but he also has a reduced role. His apparent value is low, but I could see him having a resurgence in the next few years ala Eric Staal for whomever signs him. Calling out his grit is weird. He is very tough along the boards and in front of the net.
Gudas:
His advanced stats this year are kind of an anomaly. Flyers would be smart to sell high on him: he is the kind of guy a lot of playoff teams want.

I didn't realize Reeves was a goaltender that would have taken Mike Smith out of the mix. The only reason the Flames are not the best team in the NHL right now is because Mike Smith has sucked pouch for a number of games that equal at least 10 points in the standings. Reeves doesn't fix that problem. Neal doesn't fix that problem. The Flames problem is not more scoring or playing a heavier game. The issue facing the Flames and preventing them from being top of the heap this season is a goaltender who has bled a 10-12 points this season. End of story.

If Jacob Silfveberg was available I'd be intereaten in him. Mostly for loss prevention since he always seems to score against the Flames.

Boyle is a monster. When I seen him live I couldn't believe how thick he was. Big body and has some skill. Definitely a consideration.

HNIC:
Leafs and Matthews will sit down this week and try and get a contract done
5 or 6 year term
won't be McDavid's AAV but Friedman thinks it will be close
Johnson thinks it will be 5 years @ 11 mil AAV (or slightly higher) or 6 years @ ~ 12 mil AAV
once they get Matthews done , Leafs will push to sign Marner and not wait until the summer like the agent says
all the Sellers want a 1st
Kings want a 1st for Tofolli
Ottawa wants a 1st for Dzingel
and of course the Canes want a 1st for Ferland
Kypreos thinks Jets, Flames, and Preds have their 1sts in play
Jets linked with Hayes
Preds not sure if they are getting Watson back so they may look for 2 front line players
Oilers have not talked to any candidates for the GM job
some of that procedural as teams won't let them talk to candidates, but guys like Mark Hunter is free right now and the Oilers have not progressed with him
search could take months
Kronwall has let Detroit know that he doesn't want to be traded
doesn't have a full NTC but it is expected Holland will respect his wishes unless he gets an offer he can't refuse and then maybe he takes it to Kronwall
Wings might now do an extension with Kronwall
Brassard likely won't stay long with the Panthers
Kypreos hearing Blue Jackets are interested and wondering if it could be related to Panarin and Bobrovsky
Friedman shoots that down and says it is more likely Panthers will chase Panarin and Bobrovsky in free agency
teams interested in Panarin say they aren't expecting to be allowed to talk to Panarin about a contract before a trade
Devils say that won't trade Hall at the deadline
Blackhawks have asked Seabrook to waive NTC.
He has refused up to this point.
Hawks might ask again
