Full disclosure here, I worked around Keith for a short while a hundred years ago.
He is a really good man and a very smart hockey guy who has indeed paid his dues. I don't know whether or not he has the connections and accumen to get that franchise through what looks like a monumental mountain of crap, but I don't believe he is unqualified either.
However, it doesn't matter as long as Lowe/MacT/Gretzky (Wayne) and Howson reside above. They are, have and will be calling the shots to varying degrees until they are no longer there. The OBC, Friedman denial be damned, is alive and well and has permeated that entire organization before and since the day Katz purchased the club.

He traded Seguin away, now he gets his chance to do the same with Hall !!!!!
:sarcasm:
Jokes aside, this would be an awesome hire for Edmonton
Quote:
I'm not really a huge fan of Chia. I really hope he doesn't trade Hall or another young player for scraps.

Chiarelli as GM and McLellan as coach, with Nelson retained as assistant like he said he would be OK with....dare to dream!! :thumbu:

It's all happening. Chiarelli will be hired. Lowe will be fired. Babcock will come and MacT will run.

McDavid might be the best thing to happen to the Oilers in two+ decades, especially if his arrival brings the Old Boys Club to an end. Crazy what one player's presence can do.
Quote:
If this does happen, this is the best offseason the Oilers have had in forever. Plus it would be funny because we got ripped on for having such bad management (which we do) when we won the Mcdavid sweepstakes. All this talk about how we cant develop, will ruin him etc. so if Lowe and Mact are gone, HFs reaction would be priceless.

I love that Nicholson isn't wasting time. McLellan contacted already and now Chia in Edmonton.
The guy knows how to build management teams.

I think people are biased against Chiarelli for the Seguin trade, and the Iginla deal. He doesn't appear to be as bad as he's made out to be.
Quote:
At least Chiarelli knows what it takes to win a Cup
this would be an EXCELLENT hire
get him Bob!

Gotta love this board. Everyone keeps telling Oiler fans that we have to trade one of our super kids to fill out our roster, and now that we're interviewing Chiarelli, people are cracking jokes about doing just that. Good grief.

Chia hasn't even been hired yet and people are already making bad trade jokes.
Never change HF.
Here’s a Pragmatic Bruins fan take in 2015 cautioning Oilers fan. The best part, he did it again with the Oilers lol
Quote:
He'll probably have success if he's hired. That doesn't change the fact he ****ed us over after the cup by patching the roster with useless AHL players like Pouliot, Corvo, Rolston, Mottau, Daugavins, Potter, Hennessy, Meszaros, Chris Bourque, Pandolfo, Talbot, Robins, Gagne. Overpaid by at least 50 % many guys he extended like Campbell, Kelly, Smith.
They'll just have to fire him before he sends the team into perpetual cap hell.

Dude there were people on this board that were really worried and uptight because the Oilers had finally figured it out and were going to leave the Flames in the dust.
Yup, a whole pack of Spectors right her on Calgarypuck.com (cheap pop alert)

I read about the Oilers wanting to trade for guys like Stone and Nylander. What do they have to trade for these players? Unless they are trading away Dry Saddle, RNH, they really don't have much that other teams would require to get such a deal done.

Maybe a major shakeup is what's needed? Those kinds of moves would happen at the draft though you'd think.

I know Oilers need a major shakeup, but what I don't see Senators would want to trade for a $8.5M winger given their owner are so cheap. The Leafs might do it base on the cap hit of the two, Nylander making $10M and Dry making $8.5, they save $1.5M. But can Oilers afford to add that $1.5M to their cap? Just wondering....

I'd love to see Edmonton give up a decent asset like RNH or Draisaitl for Stone. He's not going to re-sign there. And he's not getting them into the POs - he basically would just replace Draisaitl's present production.
They can't afford Nylander's cap hit this year. And I'm not sure that Nylander is any kind of upgrade on Draisaitl (though he is cheaper after this year).

Another fun read is this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comm...dent_of_hockey Make sure to change the sort to 'Controversial' and take a look at some of the Boston fan predictions. Regular bunch of Nostradamuses, especially this one:

We had won the Stanley Cup and had the second overall pick in the same calendar year and he ran it into the ground. Holy cow, it's like he had a crystal ball. Useless AHL players? Overpaid contracts? Cap hell? Sounds familiar...

Most Underrated post. So many gems in that thread
Although he received a negative score, this Bruin's prediction was right on the mark. He received 3 silver and 2 golds, I'll send him a PM congratulating him on being so accurate. Here's his quote again:

a few more Bruin's takes on Chiarelli's hiring that also got negative scores from Oiler Redditors:
Quote:
I'm completely thankful we didn't get Chiarelli. Do not want. I just hate to see all the spoiled Oilers fans who think they are victims be happy. I Think he's more a lucky GM than anything (Wanted Pogge, was given Rask) (Kessel Trade, lucked into high picks with that), And had Tim Thomas come out of nowhere with the best goaltending performance we've ever seen to win a cup. Most of his draft success came from one draft like 9 years ago. And he's horrible with the Cap.

Good Luck

Later today, Chiarelli will be holding a press-conference where it's expected that he'll be announcing his plans for how he expects to run the team further into the ground...

Still you guys.
But I prefer (McDavid's Career) as "Wasting" rather than ruining.
You'd think you guys have won a Stanley Cup or something already. You don't even have the best future out of all the teams in Alberta lol
Quote:
Sorry, but I don't like this move. Like at all. Oiler fans, I want the best for you all because you deserve the best, but Chiarelli mismanaged the Bruins almost as well as Shero did for the Penguins. I only hope, for your sake and the NHL's sake, that he has learned from past mistakes. His margin of error is that much smaller with Edmonton than Boston and he still managed to royally #### that team six ways to Sunday
Of course, Oiler fans, having been through this for 9 years up to 2015, wouldn't have any of that negativity
Quote:
A cup, presidents trophy, and 7 straight years in the playoffs. (Chiarelli) had a good run, made some mistakes, don't make it sound like he's a bum because he's not and he'll do a hell of a lot of good in Edmonton.
