I really don't get why they hang onto the 80s so much. When the players from those teams are old enough to be grandparents maybe it's time to move on a little...

Spector on the Oilers : There is plenty of time for the Oilers to get this right but, there has been 25 years for them to figure it out and they still haven't. You can't win with this roster right now and this city is as toxic as I have ever witnessed...
Spector part 2 : They have one line here, literally one line. The bottom three lines are just killing this team right now. They have guys who are barely NHL players and guys who need to develop in spots they should not be in.
Spector part 3 : The fan base is fed up. They have been upset for years but this might be it. I get into games for free and I feel like it's still a rip off. The owner is absolutely removed from the Edmonton fan and Chiarelli comes in and acts the exact same way.
Spector part 4 : When you have a Stanley Cup ring it gets you another job. I liked this move when it happened to get out of the "Oilers boys club". But, he will go down as the guy with McDavid who did nothing with it. Peter should of been let go before Todd (McLellan).
Spector part 5 : Guys in the room know who should be on the team. McDavid is playing with guys who he should not be playing consistently. There's a whole bunch of guys available but I will say this, the team needs to get away from the "Oilers boys club".
The first bold was pretty good for a patsy like Spector.
As for the 2nd bold, JFC dude, your a professional journalist and author.

It is because of arrogance and entitlement. That is the Oilers brand.

I think it is more about what the 3 game losing streak represents. The reality is that this is a bad constructed team that has completely backed itself into a corner
- Too much money tied up in few too players
- Inflated contracts for non impact players
- Cap-hell contracts like Lucic
- No prospects thanks to bad drafting. This includes the last two first rounders that I believe were bad selections. Bouchard has some fata flaws as a dman.
- No cap space to leverage
- A terrible blueline
- One line only
- The only signed goalie next year is unproven and overpaid
So you ask yourself what do you do? They simply don’t have enough to work with to turn this around. Even if they were to trade McDavid for a bunch of assets it would likely result in improved depth but lack of topline talent.
Outside McDavid this organization has the worst asset base to work with.
I mean how do you even fix it?
You basically have to commit to YET another re-build.

I'm up in enemy territory. Not a peep from anyone on the street, on the train, or at work. It's a cold, desolate morning with blowing snow and an icy wind that freezes souls. Rogers Place down the street is looking like a ghastly, sterile monolith more than any other time I've seen it. Today is a strange mix of somber hindsight with a muted sigh of relief from the Oiler base. Tonight after work, my colleagues will probably regale me with stories of when the Oilers had high hopes for a new dawn not just 2 years ago, when I heard nothing but tales of future Stanley Cups and multi-year parades down Jasper and Whyte that would go unrivaled.
I'm almost tempted to go pound on the windows of Rogers Place where they have their press conferences, which is right there next to the front doors. I'm wearing my Flames colors. God I'm tempted.

If McDavid goes on the market the 30 teams look at it.
10 will be serious
5 or more will offer dump trucks of picks, prospects and players.
It will be a business trade, not a hockey trade for some markets. In a non-traditional hockey market McDavid will put people in seats that are currently empty.

I know they want to make a push for the playoffs, but this is the time you try to trade Lucic and the first rounder for bag of pucks so you get get that contract off the books.
