Oiler fans want the OBC to run this team.

In the Firing of General Manager Peter Chiarelli, Assistant GM Kieth Gretzky should step up to the plate here and Assist Craig MacTavish.

How about Edmonton is No Good VII: “Hey Connor, It’s A Mess!”.

Sportsnet 650 @Sportsnet650
Spector on the Oilers : There is plenty of time for the Oilers to get this right but, there has been 25 years for them to figure it out and they still haven't. You can't win with this roster right now and this city is as toxic as I have ever witnessed...

Spector part 2 : They have one line here, literally one line. The bottom three lines are just killing this team right now. They have guys who are barely NHL players and guys who need to develop in spots they should not be in.

Spector part 3 : The fan base is fed up. They have been upset for years but this might be it. I get into games for free and I feel like it's still a rip off. The owner is absolutely removed from the Edmonton fan and Chiarelli comes in and acts the exact same way.

Spector part 4 : When you have a Stanley Cup ring it gets you another job. I liked this move when it happened to get out of the "Oilers boys club". But, he will go down as the guy with McDavid who did nothing with it. Peter should of been let go before Todd (McLellan).

Spector part 5 : Guys in the room know who should be on the team. McDavid is playing with guys who he should not be playing consistently. There's a whole bunch of guys available but I will say this, the team needs to get away from the "Oilers boys club".

Don't want to call them old. Hate to offend the ex Oilers or the owner.

I wonder if the next guy says to ownership - I can right the ship, but to make that happen in the next 3 years I need permission to trade McDavid 'al a' QUE trading Lindros.

Get 4 quality guys, a draft pick or 2 to flip, and out of cap hell.

I would be eager to see a McDopey trade, but mostly because I believe we will all be universally underwhelmed by the return. It will be the most difficult trade to consummate in NHL history.

Man talk about an overreaction to a little 3 game losing streak.

I think it is more about what the 3 game losing streak represents. The reality is that this is a bad constructed team that has completely backed itself into a corner
- Too much money tied up in few too players
- Inflated contracts for non impact players
- Cap-hell contracts like Lucic
- No prospects thanks to bad drafting. This includes the last two first rounders that I believe were bad selections. Bouchard has some fata flaws as a dman.
- No cap space to leverage
- A terrible blueline
- One line only
- The only signed goalie next year is unproven and overpaid

So you ask yourself what do you do? They simply don’t have enough to work with to turn this around. Even if they were to trade McDavid for a bunch of assets it would likely result in improved depth but lack of topline talent.

Outside McDavid this organization has the worst asset base to work with.

I mean how do you even fix it?
You basically have to commit to YET another re-build.

If you're a smart GM, that's the move you're preparing for. Get teams bidding against each other for the next calendar year, then get your king's ransom. Restock the shelves and depth for the season after next.

Only way out of the mess that won't require another full on rebuild.

It's a funny predicament. The only way for the Oilers to actually become a deeper and well rounded team that can compete any time soon is to send their most hyped player packing. For a team whose last decade has been built on hype, it's the ultimate test.

I know it's a bit early for humour, but... that was the joke.

They'll probably trade Drai - Gut the entire roster and end up as a basement dweller. McD asks for a trade out of Edmonton. Fans turn on him burning their 97 sweatpants on twitter, while chanting out names of the past great oilers.

Oilers win another "Generational Player" and the cycle of No Good continues.

Thing about Draisaitl is that Chia has made him almost untradeable by giving him an awfully high salary for a winger. I think the league still has questions as to his ability without McDavid. It's a huge gamble for a GM, at least without retained salary.

I just don't see that franchise dealing their only saving grace in the past decade.

They'll milk him as long as they can until he demands out from Shelbyville.

While they've traded their best player at least twice before, I agree they won't trade McDavid (barring an embarrassing public demand by McDavid that makes him toxic there). There would be public hangings. Fan would react worse than Gretzky because he won cups for them at least.
