Loubardias ended by comparing the Oilers's young players to the situation the Flames are currently in. He said that Monahan and Gaudreau are now approaching 25-years-old, winning is hard, and they have worked their asses off for a long time to get to where we are now.
It gave me pause to think about how important Mark Giordano, TJ Brodie and Mikael Backlund have been for this team. All three were developed in the organization and the Flames are all they have ever known. When there are three good players like that in place, there is no opportunity for entitlement for anyone. Not ever.

That title actually belongs to the other brother: Brent Gretzky. Return ALL FOUR of those points to the rightful owner, you filthy animal.
Oilers front office now says : "Forget Keith. Is Brent available?"

I doubt we will discover the answer at the presser today, but I wonder who signed off on the Koskinen extension? I mean did Chiarelli actually still have the power to complete that transaction without consultation or did he run it by the OBC and they agreed to do it?

Don't kid yourself. The OBC has been rubber-stamping everything Chiarelli has been doing for weeks now. The baffling hockey decisions he has made most recently were ones that they approved.

Not saying I agree with it. But it worked for them.
Just another reason Edmonton is no good.

Crosby was being mentored by Mario though, and he was given an A after Mario stepped out. He was actually made captain after his second season, not his first. He actually was offered it during that season, but reportedly turned it down, which says a lot.
Toews was indeed named captain after his rookie year - but they didn't go with Kane who scored more and was the Calder winner. He was also not a teenager (barely).

The only reason I can think of for them to fire Chiarelli after letting him sign Koskinen is that Oiler's management is swayed by public opinion. If there was fan/media support for the signing, I bet Chia would still be around even with last night's loss. It also explains why they work so hard to control the media message and seed forums with pro-Oiler posts. Oiler fans have to look at themselves and realize if they hadn't blindly accepted the many excuses from management, they likely would be cheering for a better team.

I sure wish Chia could give an "exit interview" to the media, but I assume he will have signed a gag order of some sort...

Agreed. But, in addition, talent has little to do with leadership. Give me a guy like Gio - never drafted, had to scrap for every advancement in his career. Hell, give me a guy like Stajan who has seen all kinds of roles on a team.
What's 19 year old McDavid going to say to a fourth line veteran. "Hey, you've got to skate faster and do crossovers to the net - it works for me".

Most guys will never trash the team they got fired from, fearing that they'll never get another gig. In this case, I wonder if he pretty much has to say something, or else he wears the guilt for life.
I would not be surprised if he alludes to being a marionette.

Nothing good can come out of this, Chia has been the worst of the bunch they've had. They may just actually hire a competent GM this time.
I'm quit worried right now even though that team is loaded with bad contracts. At least Chia managed to squeak in that last deal with Koskinen to give his plan some longevity.
