That would be a dumb move. This team will need quality cost controlled players for a few years to come. Dube is the best forward prospect we have, so it would not be wise to give him away, even if it means he plays an extra half season in the minors.

Who does Ferland replace? Hathaway? No thanks. Not willing to pay to upgrade the 4th line.

I’d have Ferland back in a second for the right price.

Frolik. They can alternate taking 10 game naps like they do.

Can't imagine Ferland landing in the top 6... or Neal moving to the 4th line.

Hopefully this doesn’t happen. I have never been a big fan of Ferland. He is way too inconsistent from game to game. Rather have Calgary spend assets elsewhere.

This is not a drill. The stars are aligning, and the Flames will likely hit the post-season as top seed in the division, possibly the entire conference.
Gio is playing on borrowed time. The chances of him ever being this good again are extremely small. Tkachuk is on his ELC, and he’s going to do an extra $6-7m worth of damage to the roster next year.
The coach and the team are clicking. The roster is healthy. The starting goalie is in the groove.
It’s entirely realistic that RIGHT NOW is the best chance this core will ever have to win the cup.
I would absolutely pay a 1st and a prospect for a top-tier rental right now. The Flames need size, physicality, and secondary scoring (particularly for the 2PP unit). Ferland might be the best player on the market to fill those needs.
I think it’s time to go all-in.
|
I agree that it’s time to go for it, but I don’t agree that Ferland is the guy you go all in on. Schenn or Stone seem like better rental options. If you can make either of those guys work this year, you do it.

Ha! Ferland took so many games off when he didn’t get top line duties and there is no room there for him.
Frolik has never had top line duties
Hard pass

I've read this sentiment a lot.
What's the right price for ferland?

Seems obvious to me. The Flames never wanted to trade Ferland and every playoff team could use him on their roster.
I don’t see a fit though. The acquisition cost would be for a top 6 forward while the Flames only need a bottom 6 forward.

To be honest.
I don't want any main roster trades. Bring in a few black aces that can fill in for injury but don't mess with the chemistry of this roster.

I have no problem with Ferland the hockey player or the person. And I am not worried about changing Flames chemistry if Ferland were re-acquired.
I am more worried about his health. He has a well known history of concussions and now his back is bothering him.
Fans would like to see Ferland as he played in the Vancouver playoff series a couple of years ago. But I don't think Ferland can consistently play like that anymore. It takes too much of a toll on his body.
So unless the Flames can get Ferland for cheap, which I personally don't see, then I would pass on re-acquiring him.

Ferland will cost a 1st round pick + with so many teams wanting him.
Whatever team picks him up as a UFA (and the cost will be high due to so many teams bidding for him) will surely eventually regret it.

And he would slot here as a second or third liner. Not worth the pick to get a player that fills that kind of role.

Would love Ferland back, but not at a high cost.
Given we’ve fleeced Carolina in the last trade, I wonder if they wouldn’t even want to deal with us. Besides, I’m sure someone else would outbid us.

I would think the Flames offer would have to eclipse every other offer just to save face.

That's right, and since the Flames are doing so well, the value of its 1st round pick will actually we less than most other team's 1st. So, the cost will be pretty high with whatever difference the Flames would need to include. I don't see that happening.

i know its all pie in the sky, but honestly, Stone? He's not going to be available and if he is, its going to cost you a 1st + vilimaki +....
it would be akin to us trading Monahan... no way does Ottawa gut their team, esp after getting pennies on the dollar for Hoffman and Karlsson...
i don't think Calgary will get Ferland, even though i like the guy, because the cost is going to be out of Calgary's ability to pay.
