I am honestly a bit surprised on how highly everyone values Dube; I like the guy but I have a hard time figuring out where he slots for the future at centre behind Monahan/Backlund/Jankowski. Is he going to be better than any of those three guys in the next five years (the Gaudreau/Monahan window)?
If Dube and a second gets me Ferland and I have any hope/belief that I can keep him (which I hold out hope we could), I'm okay doing that for what I think can be a middle six winger who can occasionally slot higher. It's not necessarily that I think Ferland has a higher ceiling than Dube - but for where we are as a team and where Dube is in his development, it's a cost I'd be okay with.
All that being said, goalie is still our biggest weakness moving forward and it's not close. We have in my opinion one serviceable goalie in our entire system and that doesn't appear to be solving itself without a trade.

I thought Ferland was out with concussion issues a lot this year

The Flames wouldn't even have to move any salary out to take on Ferly's contract.
Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Micheal Ferland
Michael Frolik - Mikael Backlund - James Neal
Matthew Tkachuk - Elias Lindholm - Sam Bennett
Mark Jankowski - Derek Ryan - Garnet Hathaway

If we do get Ferland back it’s not to go back on the 1st line, Lindholm has that locked for the foreseeable future.

I look at it like this.
Does Dube crack the roster next year? Who's spot?
If he's going to be in tough for another year then I think we sell high on him.
And I'm a big Dube fan.

These guys are saying 5 million + and then show highlights from 4 years ago? Ferland was great in that series. I won't take that away from him. But he's not 5 million + when he doesn't get to play on the first line.

I would very much rather Neals exact contract and top 6 hopes be slid to Ferland if that's an option.
With Tre being Tre, finding a way to trade Neal and sign Ferland for ~$5M would give us a lethal top 9 where Ferland would likely spend a lot of top 6... depending on what line you're calling 1-3

I think the value of Ferland will be higher than it was when we traded him. There is a ton of talk regarding him this season as far as a commodity. I would not be surprised to see a large package in a trade with a team who will intend to sign him after this year too.
He's been pretty consistent this year so many teams will see that. Notwithstanding his physicality he will bring to any team who trades for him.

21g last year. 13 currently. Why wouldn’t he ‘get to’ continue to play on the first line, for the third team in a row, with everything else he brings to the ice?

I will never get tired of fan attempts to break up the best line in hockey because...reasons?

Exactly.
If Ferland came back it would be to replace the rotation of third liners that have been filling the 2nd line rw spot, not to play on the first line that frankly has excelled since he's left

Considering the high price on a lot of contracts over the last couple years $5 million plus seems like a reality. The final number will likely be right around $6 probably for four years.

Frolik if moved, Czarnik, Hathaway, Mangiapane.
Plenty of room for a guy like Dude to push for a spot.

Neal. That's just so typical of the season. Not sure if the puck bounced or he bobbled it.

Ferland did nothing if not on the top line. And he went 10 or 15 games multiple times in not scoring when playing with JG and SM.
Ferland did nothing physical wise after that epic Vancouver series. He last two shifts vs the Ducks who were ready for that and gave him a concussion and that was that.
And we haven't seen Ferland do that for a prolonged stretch since. You can't play that way full time. And it was 4 years ago. And it wasn't in a contract year like this was.
If Ferland want making his way through Calgary, I think the buzz would be a lot less.
