I don't have trouble believing it's a lie or embellishment, but what's he trying to accomplish? How is it in managements best interest to have the team look broken and spineless?

The butt kissing of Stauffer towards Lowe tells me that Lowe will be the interim GM when Chia is gone.
It will be Craig MacTavish, but possibly not even with the "interim" tag.

The thing about the Oilers is that they so badly want to succeed on the strength of internal development and "loyalty."

This is what happened in 2014 when MacTavish was first appointed as GM: That Spring the Oilers for the first time could see a crack of light at the end of the long, dark rebuild tunnel. The had improved their winning percentage from 2011–2012 by 0.078, which translated into seven more wins, and then improved on that under new head coach Ralph Kreuger by another 0.018 in an abbreviated season, and after three consecutive #1 picks drafted seventh. The Oilers appeared to be slowly on the rise.

Poised for a surge into playoff contention, Kevin Lowe decided it was time to remove first-time General Manager and Oilers-outsider Steve Tambellini, and replaced him with Oilers alumnist, former coach and rookie General Manager Craig MacTavish. It was a puzzling move: the team had improved incrementally but slowly each year under Tambellini's leadership, but somehow deemed Queens University MBA graduate MacTavish as a superior choice. I think the rationale is actually abundantly clear: with the heavy lifting out of the way that Tambellini had done, and entering a window onto a higher plane of competitiveness it would look better with former-Oiler MacTavish manning the tiller than it would with an outsider at the helm.

One of MacTavish's signature moves was to secure the services of hot-shot AHL super-coach Dallas Eakins for his first NHL head-coaching gig. This on the heels of an admittedly admirable rookie performance by motivational phenom Ralph Kreuger, who was then unceremoniously dismissed via Skype.

MacTavish inevitably failed, because he—like everyone in-bred within the Oilers organization—is no good. However, the outcome of his failure did not result—as it should have—with his walking papers. No, MacTavish was promoted to the upper-tier of management, and effectively moth-balled to be returned to active service in better days. The Oilers hired Peter Chiarelli, and took another year to defy stupendous odds and win a playoff round.

2017 looked to be a moment at which to reinstate MacTavish, but difficult to justify in the wake of the accolades Chiarelli had enjoyed on the strength of his fluke season. Last year saw a return to mediocrity, and one for which Chiarelli was justifiably culpable, but then this would have left Mactavish in the unenviable position of having to draw from his own grey matter to finding a solution for the flagging team. (Did I mention that MacTavish holds an MBA from Queens University?)

The tables are set to perfection now. The team is apparently in turmoil, and Chiarelli looks like a dead-man-walking. Yet despite their futility the Oilers are bizarrely also still in the mix for a playoff berth. They almost certainly will not make it, but they most conceivably could get close. Close enough to tantalize Kevin Lowe and Darryl Katz into believing that MacTavish can retake his warm seat, and slide into a success story of sunshine, rainbows, sweatpants and good shoes.

The Oilers next GM will be Craig MacTavish.

I mean, we're really going to believe a rookie is doing that? lol

I can see it happening, but the question is what an Oiler said first.

Won't be the first or last time that was yelled down that hallway. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the Edmonton Oilers just assumed that "you f'ing suck. you are f'ing losers" is part of the post-game soundtrack that gets played in the locker room.

It's the Oilers....so who knows?

Lowe has had an inferiority complex towards the Flames since the day he was hired....its freakin bizarre.

So i guess it would be an attempt to make Andersson/Flames try and look bad or unsportmanlike?

Hey...maybe it did happen but I cannot imagine a rookie with <50 games on his resume, would pull something like that. Not off the ice at any rate.

Could also be some weird attempt to light a fire under the team through the media. Like you said, its the Oilers. Who knows.

Eberle’s 51-point performance in 2016-17 was a bit of a down year for him. Edmonton flipped him for Ryan Strome. At the time of the trade, Strome’s career-high was 50 points, put up three years earlier. It was a downgrade, and the excuse offered at the time and in the aftermath was the salary cap.

The salary cap defence was a bad one, as we explained here when Chiarelli used it to justify the trade just over a year ago.

Having successfully turned a first-line winger into a third-line centre, Chiarelli’s work was not yet complete. In November, he flipped Strome to the Rangers for Spooner. We last looked at that trade around Christmas and broke down the various ways it had been a failure, but in light of Monday’s news, it deserves a quick refresher.

A good starting point is this: Strome has six goals and 11 points in 29 games since joining the Rangers. Those six goals all by themselves would make him the fifth-best goal-scorer on the Oilers had they taken place in Edmonton.
NO GOOD!!!

Is this not pretty typical trash talk? Why is it news?

Edit: not bashing you Scorpion, just confused why the media as a whole seem very interested in a pretty pedestrian comment between rival hockey clubs.

That's what I was thinking...worse was said at my beer league game last night

If he actually said it I'm sure there were words being exchanged back and forth...Lucic and Kassian were probably going on about some ball#### and he decided to put an end to things

Also funny he didn't mention it until two days later after another ass kicking

But.... wouldnt the oilers players know what was actually said? I mean, wouldn't they have heard Rasmus say it? Putting it in the paper to get the players's attention would be less effective then say..... getting the security video of the hallway and playing it back at todays practice-turned-meeting?

So this seems more like a media move to take the heat from the fans off the oilers, and put it on a rival. Only thing is though, isn't what Anderson said common knowledge? Like there is definitely not going to be a defamation lawsuit.

The legend of Andersson just continues to grow. For oilers media to call it out is even funnier.

The oilers f*ing suck btw.

Propaganda Minister Bob Stauffer's daily regime broadcast airs only on weekdays. Today was his first official opportunity to address the proletariate since Saturday night.

It's weird, from the dialogue on Tkachuk earlier in the year, to the assault on the refs because Connor's not getting the Gretzky treatment, to things like this, the media in Edmonton are full on acting like Oilers fans versus reporters.

It's very bizarre........they were getting chippy with Anderson, likely nothing more than continued trash talk to your point spilling off the ice, trying to be spun into a Flame trying to pile on the situation going on up there.

I was only half listening, but I'm pretty sure Stauffer just brought it up off the cuff as a recent example of something that might have gotten into the heads of some of the Oilers players, only adding to confidence and morale issues.

I can see it. Andersson is a pretty good chirper. Wasn't there a FlamesTV piece where someone was mic'ed up for a pre-season game and Andersson could be heard in the background? (Might've been Mangiapane).
