Generally it's the boosting of the bottom six trades that teams that go deep make. The Cullen type trades. Or Brassards.

That's why the Nyquist or Johansson option appeal to me. They'd both be options to shore up the 3RD line IMO. But can play I'm the top six if needed. Good depth acquisitions help teams go deep.

Chicago traded a first for Vermette.

While he wasn’t a scoring machine, he won two one goal games with third period goals in the finals vs. Tampa.

I am pretty happy with the lineup as is. I would find a LW for the 4th line to replace Czarnik and Mangiapane. That is all I would do. Can't think of any guys to target but he should have a little toughness and likes to hit to wear down the D on the other team. Maybe Jordan Nolan or Lawson Crouse?

Don't mess with chemistry.

Isn’t it a little odd that the Rangers scouts are scouting their own game?
Unless they are looking to make a deal with the Bruins, I guess...

Dorion's visit to Duchene's agent's offices in LA was to show how serious they are about re-signing Duchene
offer was made in ballpark of $64 million over 8 years which comes with a soft deadline to accept the offer

Sens also made an offer to Stone
not sure of the exact numbers but likely more than what was offered to Duchene

Karlsson contract talks with Sharks begun
Expected to ramp up after the All-Star break

Leafs looking for a RH d-man
top 4 RH d-man is extremely expensive right now
if they can make a deal without losing a roster player, they might make a deal
Leafs 2019 1st, 2017 1st Timothy Lilijegren, Calle Rosen, could all be included in the package
Leafs are refusing to include Kapanen or 2018 1st Rasmus Sandin in any trade talks

If Leafs decide the price for RH d-man is too high they may look at LH options like Muzzin or Gudas

So the Leafs are not getting a top pairing RHD. They will regret that when the Bruins destroy them in Rnd 1.

I remember when the Leafs media and fans thought they got the steal of the draft when he fell to them at 17th after the Flames took Valimaki a pick ahead. Props to Treliving and scouts for realizing the better player over the flashier prospect.

Does Duchene at 8x8 seem steep? Almost 10% of cap. Cool player but that's upper echelon $$$

What about Smith and a 3rd for Maroon and Allen (some salary retained)?

Flames get a 1B/2A goalie for the playoffs and for the next 2 seasons so Rittich doesn’t have to play so many games. Some salary is retained so maybe the Flames are only paying 500K to $1M more than market for a second goalie.

Maroon is a great depth winger who can play up and down the lineup and add toughness to the team for the playoffs.

Seems low actually. Ottawa is one of the worst taxed cities in the NHL. I could see him asking for at least $9M-$10M. Tavares was offered $13M and turned it down. Duchene isn’t so far behind Tavares, so I could see him getting 8 figures from a team desperate for a #1 center like Montreal.

Is Tatar a big acquisition? If not was Gaborik?

I would absolutely entertain that, it helps us with playoff depth. Not sure the blues would do it though.

He's the second highest scorer from his draft class behind only Tavares.
More points than O'Reilly ($7.5m) and Kane ($7.0m)
I think it's pretty fair.

Given the chemistry our team has I think the Flames will have to look harder at Ferland than Simmonds or maroon as Ferland is a more known quantity.

I don’t know if I have some kind of bias I’m not aware of, or am taking crazy pills. But I’ve never liked a ounce of Duchenes game.

Trade for a solid backup goalie. Why go all in this team is fine. Keep the 1st.

Why go all in?

*2nd place in the league*

There isn’t really a lot higher to climb in this league. This team is young, signed for the next 3 years and we have a 35 year old Norris Trophy quality defenceman.

Things don’t always line up in this league. Nothing ever clicks 100%, but this is as close as I’ve ever seen this team be - and we’re in a position where we can afford to mortgage a bit of the future thanks to how young most of the key components are.

Let’s go for it. I have faith in Tree making the right move. I think this is a year worth chasing.

I’m excited. Go all in for Gio.

This team has depth i just see it as risky. Tre has done a great job getting contracts done with the core. Cap problems is my worry unless salary is going back. This team as it is can do damage but we need a capable backup imo. Unless Tre gets Hayes or Schenn i wouldn't mind that.
