Every player entering the 2019 draft will be eagerly watching and hoping that Oilers 1st rnd pick moves.

Sam Gagner for the Bottom 6? He was serviceable last few years and Canucks have soured on him. He looks to be playing well in the minors. Canucks are already paying him to play in the minors. They might be willing to eat some of the cap hit and make it more attractive for Calgary.

I don't think he is a good fit. We need more 3rd line type players with some size and speed. Really I think we have better call up options in Quine or dube. And they are free, also it's not like Gagner brings a lot of playoff experience to the table.

Trade ended up being:

Niederreiter: 3.5 years at $5.25M

for

Rask: 3.5 years at $4M

Could Carolina have actually had interest in Neal at 4.5 years at $5.75...could also be why he was held out of the game/practice for "Illness".
Kind of makes sense as the only guy we should be trading for Rask unless they wanted Ryan back

That trade would have sucked then. We need to either trade Frolik after the season or move him for an expiring deal. That $4.3M cap space is needed next summer not $4M tied up in an underperforming center with longer term left on his deal.

Common tre lets go snag schenn. If you can somehow get neal in the trade as well you'll be a legend.

What if Carolina feels they can’t sign Ferland; if we speculated that it could have maybe been Neal for Rask is there a chance Neal for Ferland closer to the deadline could be something that is possible?

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Ferland
Bennett- Jankowski - Frolik
Mangiapane - Ryan - Hathaway
Czarnik

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kylington - Andersson

I would do Neal plus our first for Ferland just to get rid of Neal !

Well being a cap floor type team I could see Carolina intrigued by the trade, proven scorer who is having a disastrous season and a brutally lower than average shooting percentage playing on the third line/2nd PP when he signed for the 1st line/1st PP which just isn’t going to change anytime soon. Neal plays a similar game to Ferland, is an attractive contract to expose during the Seattle draft and he has no NTC or NMC so it’s a player I’d imagine wouldn’t be generally available to Carolina via trade. Intriguing thought and if we had to add a futures asset to get it done I’d definitely consider it.

No question in my mind that Treliving's should be looking for a tough forward that can skate. The road to the conference final is going to involve Vegas or San Jose or both and as much as I'm not a believer in tough guys for the sake of toughness, a seven game series against Reeves or Kane does concern me.
It would be nice to have a dangerous player out there to make those type of players accountable.
I still hold out hope that Neal could be that guy.
Maybe I'm naïve on that count.
Ferland could definitely fit the bill.

Was probably something around Neal and another player that's dissatisfied with ice time (pick one) for Rask and Ferland.

Always fun to speculate.

Yes, after Hathaway and Bennett, we don't have any other players who hit regularly.

And other than Bennett to a degree the Flames don't have any players that are dangerous. As much as it is distasteful to comprehend there is a certain amount of intimidation in the game. Guys like Reaves and Wilson have that in spades. I'm not surprised that the Flames went after Reaves in the off season. It's a hole in the current line up for sure.

I love this kind of speculation, but I just don't see it with Neal.

Nino has 9 goals. Neal has 10 points.

There aren't similar valuations.

Also, through poster I think clarified that the flames were in on Rask. This to me is shocking. I can't believe the canes would be interested in dealing with the flames again after how their last deal worked out. There's almost a face saving necessity for them in their next deal with Calgary imo.

I have to think it if there were serious talks between the canes and flames for Rask, frolik was the likeliest piece going the other way.

Easy yes but would have to send some cap back to make it work.

I'd pay extra for schenn if the blues retained salary for this year and next.

Maximize cap potential.

Actually we wouldn't. According to capfriendly our deadline cap space is $5.3 mil and Schenn is $5.1 mil.

https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/flames

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/brayden-schenn

Edit for clarity: I mean we would not need to send cap back if the transaction was done on deadline day.

Rather spend our 1st on Schenn than a rental especially if we can send a contract back the other way or have retention.
