If true, I wonder if we'll be in on Brassard then.
Similar 3C type of player with offensive upside but in need of a change of scenery.

Hmm wonder what Carolina would have wanted in return from us. Frolik is kind of an older version of Niederreiter.
Us looking at Rask makes it sound like we want a guy with some term left though that fits this age group, and not a guy that would just be a rental like Brassard.
Other Rask comparables that play some C that have some term left and may need a scenery change:
- Coyle
- Pageau
- Bjugstad
- Schenn (Bit more of a stretch)
Those guys all fit in that C/W, 25-26 years old, around $4M salary range that Rask would have been in.

Now this is a going deep down the speculation rabbit hole and is based on absolutely nothing but
Carolina is looking desperately for top 6 forwards.
Trade ended up being:
Niederreiter: 3.5 years at $5.25M
for
Rask: 3.5 years at $4M
Could Carolina have actually had interest in Neal at 4.5 years at $5.75...could also be why he was held out of the game/practice for "Illness".

Seems like the only thing that would make sense seeing as how the Flames wouldn't have been able to afford (cap wise for future seasons) Rask's $4 million AAV for the next 4 years without moving a guy like Neal.

Maybe some retention was involved. I could see it being Frolik for Rask but thier GM got a better offer. I feel like Tre comments the other day on rentals and trying not to mess up the future here takes us out of big time one and done rentals.
Froliks agent did complain, he has connections with the Hurricanes. Interesting to say the least. Of course he wont tell who he thinks was going to the Canes if it fell through.

After Stone, I think Rask would be the next best dream pickup.
Top 5 goalie save percentage all time:
Hasek: 92.2%
Gibson: 92.2%
Rask: 92.2%
Dryden: 92.2%
Thomas: 92.0%
I think save percentage is one of the best "simple" stats in hockey. Rask is almost 32, but he's one of the most consistent goalies in the league.

Where are you getting that? He is widely regarded as one of the better defensive wingers in the game today. He has received Selke votes in each of the last three seasons. He is also a relatively strong penalty killer.
Silfverberg gets absolutely hammered in terms of zone starts (37 oSZ%)
He would be a fantastic fit next to Backlund and Tkachuck. He's also a big time playoff performer.

I think we should ask Wayne Simmonds if he wants to be our Chris Simon.

Ferland would be a big add for any contending team. I think he is somewhat worthy of his spot, maybe not 3, but definitely top 10.

Usually it's a combination of the two. Most-likely to get traded and most-likely to get the biggest return.
