I sincerely believe that Craig MacTavish will replace Chiarelli this summer. The once and future king.
*EDIT* Is it a coincidence that MacTavish was featured on "Hometown Hockey" last weekend?

That job is so toxic after chia, I'm guessing MacTavish wouldn't even want to touch it. They are going to have to bring in a Jay Feaster type as a hatchet man/interim before MacTavish takes over. Please let it be Jay Feaster.

Personal Strategy.
I'd point out in the interview that they can't keep firing coaches and GM's and nobody else is going to take the job, hell I won't unless I get a 10 year $25 million dollar contract.
They agree because they're stupid. I sign the contract.
Katz - "What's your first move"
Me - "I'm trading McDavid"
Katz - "You're fired"
Me - "Can you make my enormous novelty sized check to cash, that's my nickname"

Good coaching!

i brought this up with a customer of mine today that is a HUUUUGE greaser fan. you would have thought i offended his family name or something! wow!! the salt was amazing!
the simple point i was trying to make was 'give your tops guys a lighter work load when you can... leave more in the tank for down the road in the playoffs... but we know that won't be a concern for the oil!'. ok... maybe when i put it that way i can see why he was getting annoyed... but the essence of the point is still the same - you're obliterating you opponent - play your bottom guys more!
e (and their fans) = ng!
**i also offered the same guy a 'chia-den-freu-de' shirt.... yea... that didn't go over well either!

Not just that, but professional athletes need to be very careful about taking cold and flu medication because some contain banned substances. My understanding was that team physicians take care of that for the players.
I mean yeah, if he was playing sick then it would be nothing for him to go driving around on a day off. But if he is being granted a day off from a team event, it would still be a bit of a pisser that he wasn't actually resting.

it's funny that a writer can get offended by a subjective list of prospects. It's almost as if he takes it personal.
David Staples is no good.

From his recent article:
When it comes to rating Bouchard, I haven’t see him in major junior this year and I didn’t see him in the World Junior tournament. Between coaching two minor hockey teams and watching and analyzing the Oilers to death, I have my fill of hockey, so I paid little attention to that tournament. However when it comes to judging Bouchard, Oilers fans like me have one advantage in that we closely watched and scrutinized his every shift in Edmonton. I don’t know about your view of his game, but he left a good impression with me.
So he hasn't watched him since he left Edmonton to go back to junior - Pipe down, David.

Sure hope it is not Feaster, 35 percent of the players he drafted as Flames GM became regular NHL players and 65 percent played a game in the nhl. That is an impressive record and significantly higher than the percentages for the overall drafts. Edmonton is no good, no need to give them a talent hawk like Feaster.

By all counts Feaster was pretty "hands off" when it came to the draft, and deferred regularly to his scouting staff in the selection of players. I sincerely doubt that Edmonton's scouting is good enough to make anything of their draft picks, and if Feaster chooses the same approach it doesn't really change anything for them.

Feaster is on record as saying that he was very hands off on the draft, which was the polar opposite of Darryl. Feaster’s greatest strength in his tenure was his trust in the scouting department and Todd Button.
Would that success be able to be replicated with Edmonton’s scouting staff? I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Edit. Dammit, was just beaten.

Feaster was hands off but he was responsible for the change in focus of the type of player the Flames were looking for. Instead of looking for big bottom 6 type players, Feaster asked Button to focus on high skill players regardless of size. So its true, he left it to the scouting staff but he changed the priority on the type of player Button should be targeting. I believe I read that this is what happened. If that is the case, I give him credit for that.

How many GM jobs have been available and how many interviews has Feaster even had since Dec. 2013? He's got a community involvement job with TB - he's not even in their pro hockey development department. I don't think even the Oil would look at him.
I suspect the next GM is Wayne's brother.

In his defense you can argue a lot of GM's may be better served listening to their head scouts. I believe the Oilers scouts wanted Murray over Yakupov and that was overridden by managment/ownership. Murray isn't an all star but he would have been a better pick.
As for the Oilers I can't see any highly touted GM candidate being interested in that organizational dynamic they have going on there. I imagine the next GM comes from within which for Flames fans is probably a really good thing.
