Lucic doubles his goal total for the season! Unbelievable feat, If the season ended today they would have paid 1.5 MILLION per goal. Bargain.

On the bright side, Chia stays GM for another game. Hopefully through the off-season too.

7 goals in a game? People in Edmonton need to get to work immediately, that parade won't plan itself!

The Blues seem to be waking up lately when they finally got some decent goaltending. If I were a betting man I would put some money on them to start stringing some more wins together and snatch the final wild card. 3 points behind the 4-way tie and games in hand on everyone, they are easily the most talented team of the teams fighting for that spot right now. Wouldn't it be glorious if the Oilers were able to hang around with the Wild, Canucks and Ducks for a time, only to be pushed to the side of the road by the Blues?

Oilers just don't have the depth. Anaheim is a broken team all-around. Vancouver is a surprise at how competitive they are this year, but it seems like they are running on fumes at times.

It is really starting to bunch up right now. The Avs have slumped and the Stars are just ahead of the 4 way tie. Heck, the Coyotes are just a point back of the Blues. There are 8 teams within 7 points of each other and only 3 playoff spots available. The Blues have the best record in the past 10 games of the bunch. The Coyotes and Stars are 2nd best with the Stars on a downward trend.

Final scores
https://scores.nbcsports.com/nhl/sco...p?day=20190114
http://sportsstats.cbc.ca/news/NHL-Recap-Roundups.aspx?date=01-14-2019
Dubnyk didn't have his voodoo stuff as he got pulled after allowing 5 goals on 20 shots. The Wild did have a 2-0 lead and then the Flyers tied it in the 1st period. The Wild took a 3-2 lead and then the Flyers scored 3 straight to take a 5-3 lead. Van Riemsdyk gets a hat trick with the empty net goal, Flyers win 7-4. His teammates, Laughton had 3 assists and Patrick had 4 points. The Wild fired 38 shots at Carter Hart and had a 2-1 ration on shots in the final 2 periods.
The Avs get a much needed win over the Leafs, 6-3. Andersen was back in the Leafs net from his injury and actually played well as he faced 36 shots. Just like in the Wild game, the Leafs had a 2-0 lead and then the Avs came back to tie it and take a 3-2 lead into the 3rd period. Soderberg gets a hat trick with the empty net goal and a SHG. Nice deflection by Landeskog. The win puts the Avs are tied with the Stars, 3 points ahead of the 8th place Wild. The Leafs suck right now losing 5 of their last 7 games.
The Habs end it quickly in OT, just 15 seconds for Petry's GWG, 3-2 Montreal. The baseball conncection is that his father, Dan Petry was a MLB pitcher. Krejci scored the GTG with 37 seconds left in reg time on the PP to give the Bruins a point. Carey Price was a stud in net as he made 42 shots. The points gained by both the Habs and Bruins puts the Leafs just a point up on Boston and 3 back of the 7th place Habs.
The Blues beat the Caps for the second time in 12 days by a 3 goal margin, this time 4-1. Ovechkin scored the Caps only goal on the PP in the 1st period. The Blues took over in the 2nd period scoring 3 goals in less than 5 minutes. Copley was in net again for the Caps and faced 37 shots. Brooks Orpik played in his 1000th NHL game.
What was going on in New Jersey? The 2nd period had 8 goals! The Devils scored 5 of them, the 2 teams scored 3 goals in 63 seconds late in the period. Fights and rough stuff with 15 seconds left in the game. Palmeiri and Coleman each scored 2 goals for the Devils, Kane had 2g and 2a for the Bhawks. Cam Ward was pulled after letting in 6 goals.

Absolute embarrassment. Clearly our ten game winning streak was all smoke and mirrors — mostly just luck. Something needs to be done to shake up this team fast because playoffs are quickly fading away and it would amount to one of the worst season collapses ever (of course, why would I expect anything different?)
Please rag doll us tomorrow so they are further motivated to can lame duck Housley.

Is Housley that bad? I rarely watch the Sabres play, but from listening to podcasts and stuff I was under the impression that he was doing a good job with the team?

Very comparable to Glen Gulutzan time with the Flames, if you ask me. No passion, no heart, inflexible, inexplicable decisions... I mean he's not the worst coach we've ever had, but I think he runs a poor system and is a poor motivator. This team's inconsistent play (okay to start, crazy hot streak, terrible since) largely falls on those factors.

One should expect as much, since Lucic makes more money than Neal, and both are still under contract for four more years beyond this one.
