It will be awesome when they trade their first rounder for a winger 'with term'. May I suggest Brandon Dubinsky? 4g 6a, $5.85MM for two more years.

Dubinsky would tied for 6th in goal scoring and 8th for pts on the Oilers. 1 more point than Lucic - that would be $12MM for 2 players for 19 pts.

In the bigger picture, Edmonton is where Calgary was supposed to be by now, well on their way to being a top-10 National Hockey League team with an long and bright future.

That is inane, and quite frankly being intentionally dishonest. Spector wants us to think that Edmonton's rebuild (a single one?) is moving along faster than Calgary's? That not only have they become the better team, but achieved that far quicker than expectations?

I was thinking this might make sense for the Oil as well - the Oilers would love to have an ex-Flame doing well on their team. And he is exactly what they need - big, fast, and can score. He would look fantastic on McDavid's wing.

But how the hell do they fit him into their cap structure?

This year as a rental, sure. But I don't know how they can sign him.

Huge win for Carolina. Plus, I don't see Ferland tipping the scales enough in Edmonton. And they can't re-sign him, especially when the reason he's being dealt is his salary ask.

ETA: By all means put him on McDavid's wing. There are only so many goals to be had, and the Oilers' problem isn't scoring from the McDavid line. How many more goals would Ferland get than Chiasson? Ferland would be much more useful to them on RNH's line IMO.
