The most intriguing part of this right now is what is going on in McDavid's head. Everything else about this situation is just Edmonton being Edmonton.
There isn't a person in the world (outside of Edmonton) that would blame him for requesting a trade.

What would you be willing to give up for Yamamoto and a pick? (Assuming the pick is a 2nd)

Scoring Winger

Hey, let's not pile on, I think there were a lot of positives for the Coilers to take away from that game....their #4 overall draft pick cashed in his SEVENTH point of the season, and his $6.5 million linemate scored both his SECOND goal and NINTH point of the season. ALL ON THE SAME PLAY!
I think it's fairly evident that the secondary scoring woes are over, and this team is ready to go on a long run.

Nothing like some Chiadenfreude in the morning.
It will be awesome when they trade their first rounder for a winger 'with term'. May I suggest Brandon Dubinsky? 4g 6a, $5.85MM for two more years.

Every time I look at him I can't help but think there's not a whole lot going on in his head. Unfair, but that's just the impression I get.

Good Lord this season is fun so far! Sitting second in the league while those idiots in Edmonton toil away. The salty tears of their fans are adding up quickly and it is glorious to see and hear. Living where I do and being immersed in what they like to call Oil Country I just can't muster any sympathy for that fan base like some here are able to do.
I can honestly say that my biggest disappointment to this point in the season is that there has not been one single jersey tossed on the ice at Roger's Place. I take great pleasure in watching that, probably more than I should, but it really can't be too far off.
The realization that no matter who comes in to right the ship in Edmonton now has years of work to do to bring them back to respectability, and I really don't see them making the necessary changes anytime soon, just does my heart good too. We can look forward to a long road for those twits, even if they did everything right from here on out, and let's be honest....

Yamamoto has mostly been a disappointment since being a first round pick. He has had NHL opportunities, but has not done well.
Someone would be willing to give something for him as he still has some potential, but he is not bringing back a difference maker.

Yamamoto gets you another yamamoto.
Kind of like Shinkaruk for Rychel deal

Didn't the Oilers have to give up a 2nd when they hired Chiarelli? They didn't just overpay him to ruin the franchise, they have up a draft pick too.
So, since the day before they won the McDavid lottery they
Gave up: Hall, Eberle, Cagguila, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 6th
Acquired: McDavid, Chiarelli, Larsson, Spooner, Manning, Petrovic, Reinhart
They even lose this "trade"
These are just the trades I can remember, I'm sure there are more, but it's not like they hit any home run trades that would make it look much better

I thought it was designed so you couldn't?
That could be problematic for the traditional hat throwing, but that won't be an issue at Rogers anyway.

Maybe it's just his normal demeanor but I can't remember a player that looked as unhappy. Dude barely cracks a smile ever, even when doing a commercial. He's almost robotic.

I see it mentioned in this very thread now and then. Now, in fairness, most state that they start to have sympathy for them but quickly one of the twittier of the twits does something twitty and the sympathy soon wanes.

The best part of that, if it is in fact true, is that this needed to be a design consideration. Delicious stuff

It can't be very fun.
Contrast that to the joy you see on the faces of the purple squirting trio.
It's a game. Its much easier when it fun

I don't think that there is really a debate about what has to be done. The Oilers are a team that's structurally broken every where.
A lack of wingers, a pretty poor blueline even when its healthy.
Inconsistent to bad goaltending
A prospect pool that nobody should be excited about.
I want to add the assumption that Katz wants a playoff appearance this year, and that's just based around the concept that he's concerned about renewals on luxury boxes in a bad economy.
The Oilers aren't a astute move or two from being a good team, the reason why they're even close to a playoff spot is a combination of struggling wildcard teams and a streak of great goaltending when Hitch came on board bailing out a bad team that seems to get badly outchanced on a nightly basis.
Logic says that its time for a massive sell off, but they don't have a lot of assets that teams are going to covet outside of their big three in McDavid, RNH and Draisaitl.
Other NHL GM's are pretty astute, they're not lining up for a poolparty, or a struggling Nurse or Larsson unless its as reclamation projects at a low low price.
I make fun of Oilers and their fans, but I'm amazed that its gotten this freaking bad with all of the advantages that they've received.
