Nah... i remember them trolling they year they made the playoffs and lost in the second round...they could not keep their mouths shut at the time.
Oilers imploding...badly... Hitch just lit into everyone at the 6:40 mark
Really a no lose proposition for the Flames the next two game. Wins versus Anahiem and SJ help our cause and pushes the Oilers away from the top end of the lottery...
If they lose, we get to listen to the 630 Ched call in show.
win/win

I find the Oilers to be utterly facinating, they are the textbook example of a trust fund kind who is gifted millions and stunningly turns them into a worthless pog collection.
This Oilers team that has been gifted with so many top draft picks not only in the first round but all of the other rounds has turned their team into a group of players that can be generously described as McDavid, Draisaitl and RNH, and really, Draisaitl and RNH are somewhat ordinary and not that stunningly option.
Weak through out its lineup with no depth to help, very few prospects to be excited about, its amazing how this Oilers team that should have a wealth of assets has very little.
Is it all Chia's fault? Not really, this team has been raped by successive GM's Craig McTavish has to take a bow as he didn't do much to improve Oiler fortunes to the point that the favorite conspiracy theory is that McDavid demanded a change.
Steve Tambellini basically reshuffled deck chairs on the Titanic to the point that most thought that he had been tasked with getting the Oilers into the Lottery.
Sure Chia's been a train wreck, but lets be honest management before him laid those tracks to end at the mouth of a ravine.
Tonights media has been facinating with Hitchcock throwing his locker room under the bus and questioning the leadership of his team which is a direct shot at McDavid. Meanwhile Chiasson said that the effort was there and the team was not prepared to play, a thin shot at the coaching staff.
So is it the players? The Coaches? The GM?
Hitch deserves the least amount of blame here, he's been in that cesspool of suck for a short time, if he should be blamed for anything its believing that he can turn this club around and make them play any defensive system past the point of time that the players say "Bored now, the Conna needs points".
The truth is that successive GM's have wrecked this team, and successive player core's have become coach killers. T-Mac was no great shakes, but those players stopped playing for him long before he got fired. How many press conferences did he do where he talked about the lack of effort of his team.
Dallas Eakins might not have been a great coach, but frankly that team tuned him out in training camp of his second year. Why? Because they had the power to get him fired. Tom Renney and Ralph Krueger were the perfect teaching coaches, but especially with Renney, that core stopped playing for him.
That all goes back to the culture installed by Lowe and Mac-T that they've never been able to shake. The one constant here is that when Lowe was booted up stairs first to GM then President, the culture went south, more because they kept Lowe in the organization and kept Mac-T in the organization.
Now they're handicapped, they have few assets to trade, and nobody around the league thinks of that franchise as anything but a laughing stock. In fact, the good Captain (3rd person reference breaking the 4th wall) believes that the only players that will go to the Oilers are those that see the end of their careers coming and see one last massive paycheck, and I'm talking to you Mr Lucic.
So the question is, do they fire Chia? Sure, but really what good is that going to do, its not going to change the perception of the team, and the interim GM has to come from within the organization because teams are unlikely to release their assistant GM's with the draft less then 7 months away. Plus any GM that comes in doesn't have anything to work with unless McDavid, Draisaitl, Nurse (who's awful going on terrible) and their first round pick can be put into play.
I think Oiler fans are going to be bitterly dissapointed by three things
1) There's no instant fix, no matter who parks in the GM's office
2) Its likely that any GM worth their salt is going to want to go to Edmonton until they see what happens with Seattle, and what other GM and assistant GM's open up
3) The reputation of that club and its local are so notoriously bad that anyone worth getting has a NMC and Edmonton certainly won't be on the list.
Oh and a 4th one.
4) With the lack of talent and lack of assets unless you move McDavid, or RNH, or Draisaitl, any new GM is going to absolutely work from a long term plan of rebuilding their prospect base and youth (Not an easy thing to do), and that means, yes, no quick fix by any other name is lengthy rebuild.
It would be enough to make me feel bad for the Oilers fanbase, except that they are such an unlikable, arrogant fanbase. You'd think they would have learned about being humble by now, but they're not, they're arrogant and deluded, and they deserve this punishment from the Hockey Gods.
So what's the Captain's predictions, prognostications, WAGs.
Yes Chia will be fired, Keith Gretzky will not get the job because Messier has been angling for a GM job since he left the Rangers, and now he's going to get it.
A new GM will be a seller at the deadline, well a seller with a booth full of rotten fruit, and candy bars that look and taste like poop. So he's going to move the movable and not get much.
At the end of the year, Bob Nicholson will be let go to return to where he came from and the Oilers in what they think is a brilliant public relations move will name Wayne as the team president.
Lowe will leave, it will be a firing disguised as a resignation as he goes to work with Hockey Canada. Mac-T will get promoted.
Hitch will not be back, he'll quietly return to fishing and shooting small animals. The Oilers will have a lot of trouble finding a new coach with any kind of experience. Because of that they will promote Jay Woodcroft from the Bakersfield Condors.
At the draft, one of RNH or Leon Draisaitl will be traded, they need the cap relief and to spread the money throughout the lineup.
They will promise to go big game hunting at free agency, I expect that they will make a run at someone of the caliber of Mathew Tkatchuk to show the Oiler fans that they're being proactive in their rebuild (This is a WAG people). I don't think its logical because of their cap problems, but its something that Oiler fans would get excited about even if it fails.
They'll run a constant stream or propaganda that they're rebuilding, they have to fix the mistakes of the last management team and fans need to be patient because there's a lot to look forward too. At the same time they'll increase ticket, parking and concession prices, and won't see a drop in attendance.
I doubt that Connor will make any kind of trade demand.

Oh god yes. If and when they dump Chia, please bring on another round of MacT management, in fact, I'd love for them to drop the interim tag and run with him for a while. He'd bring in all those precious draft picks to totally waste, plus he'd probably make GG their head coach (or Gretzky would be a pretty hilarious one too) and with the help of his good buddy Lowe, surround the team with more old boys club relics.
what a great sports night. Oilers losing to the worst team in the league, Canucks lose, Seahawks lose. the only way it could be better is if the roughriders were playing and losing.
That tweet is fascinating, really. First, Ha Ha Stupid Chia. Second, going back to MacTavish? lol, okay. But also, the tweet all but admits management is quitting on the season by arguing to bring MacTavish in to acquire picks. It also begs the question: Outside of McDavid, Draisaitl and Nugent Hopkins, is anyone actually worth picks that will help the Oilers within the next four years, if at all?
And, as far as last night's game itself goes, I see a team that has just flat out quit. And given how bad the bottom nine forwards are (and were last night), there's a handful there that will find themselves in Europe or the AHL next season as a result.
I doubt I’ll rest easy until after the draw in that scenario.
They have the greatest player since Crosby and have also drafted 3 more #1 overalls. They are still in the running for another #1 overall pick. Adding one more 19 year old to their team isn’t going to magically fix it. Why would you be worried?

not to mention a 3, 4 and 7 squeezed in there and presumably high 2nd round picks too because of their draft position.
outside of the no-brainer choices like RNH, McDavid, Draistl and Nurse, have they drafted anyone? Like anyone at all?
that's as big an indictment that they have no prospects in all these years either
