Bennett was barely late but late none the less. Was clean hit shoulder to chest. Nothing at all wrong with that.
Refs should have dealt with dell both times he lashed out at Bennett. But they didn’t. However I don’t think Bennett’s hit was a direct “retribution” for the dell garbage, it was just an opportunistic moment to send a message to the sharks

What was with the Sharks and their coach getting all pissy at the end? Better be mad at only themselves for not taking the game when it was served to them on a silver platter.
No kidding. After the Flames took over in the 3rd, the Sharks were giving up all kinds of grade A chances and odd-man rushes, and their D coverage was awful for most of the night. Not to mention they got that Christmas gift from the officials when the goal was called back. They really have nobody to blame but themselves for the loss.
So working under the assumption that the league will see the Bennett hit as late, what’s the exact rule that calls for suspension? I thought maybe a minor/major penalty, but I’m unsure of the rule that would apply in that case, as well.
Just wondering where the jump from late hit to suspension comes from.

A leafs player got suspended a little while ago for something reasonably similar so it wouldn't surprise me if he gets a game. I agree that he might not have made the hit if the refs just did their goddam jobs for a full 60, score be damned.
Bennett is a beauty!!! Fat *&^k Ref # 13 should face discipline for watching Dell spear Bennett and not calling a penalty and then punching Bennett in the chest when he is coming at Dell a couple minutes later which shows he knew what happened earlier and chose to ignore it.

I agree. The key is the officials need to call stuff like the Dell spear so the concept of players needing to handle retribution is removed
Officials really fata upped the game
A classic example of a game escalating due to poor officiating
I think there has been at least one game maybe two in the past with the Sharks where somehow in the nhl eyes they played the perfect game without committing one infraction, and the Flames had like five called against them, classic, just classic nhl reffing.
Refs let it get out of Hand and everything in the final two minutes is due to their refusal to call the slashing or cross checks on the Sharks in the third.
Plus Kane running around, jumping Tkachuk, and then chirping the bench. Bennett just answered that chirp.

Everyone here see Pulp Fiction? Remember that scene when Esmeralda Villa Lobos asks Butch(Bruce Willis)how it feels to kill a man and Butch says, “I didnt know he was dead until you told me he was dead, now that I know he’s dead...I don’t feel the least bit bad about it.”
That’s how I feel about the Bennett hit. Was it late? Damn right it was. Do I feel bad? Nope. The guy got chopped in the balls five minutes earlier and the Sharks were running around all night. Temperatures were running high. Keep your head up

Scoring change tonight for the #Flames has the team’s third goal now credited to Tkachuk from Monahan and Giordano. That takes an assist away from Gaudreau. So to update:
-Monahan 5 points (5A), career high
-Gaudreau 4 points (2G,2A)
-Tkachuk 4 points (2G,2A)

NHL official rule book says it's auto suspension, because Bennett is a Flame!

Kane should get a look for that attempted elbow to Anderson with 3min left. He didn't connect so nothing happens but he was trying to elbow him in the head pretty clearly.
