No, not yet. Rittich could get shelled and they should still go back to him on Friday. He's going to have an off game along the way here. He's human. I want to see how he rebounds if that does happen.

Not sure how you could come to that determination as teams lose for a lot more reasons other than just goaltending. If he lets in some soft goals and they lose it's a setback but even the best have the odd tough night. It will take a few games of him playing poorly before we should start worrying. I'm still not 100% sold on him being the long term answer but as long at he can maintain his statistics in the upper echelon of goaltenders I'm fine with riding things to see where they go.

Yeah it depends a lot on how he looks as well. If the Flames lose but he doesn't give up any softies and still looks solid, I would still prefer to treat Rittich as the starter unless Smith starts to look like start-of-last-year Smith at some point.
I think the important thing was making sure that Rittich closed out this home stand. I support giving Smith a few starts on the road to see where he's at, but he definitely shouldn't be getting any starts at home any time soon.

Over under the number of breakaways the Flames give up this game +/- 1.5?
If BSD doesnt give up any gimmes and even makes a few saves he has no business making then the Flames can win.
This is a great litmus test after a terrible Calif road trip, and wins against Edm and LV respectively.
A win here and this team could get some confidence to go on a nice run.

Can we not enjoy anything?
No goalie is going to go through the year without bad games. Ever.

Literally anything can happen in a single game. That's why there are 82 games ina season.
We have played well against - and beaten - the best team in the league. And we have looked like crap against the Nucks, the Pens and the Habs.
It's just another game.

Sure, and look what happened to Todd McLellan

Hahaha! Wow.
So there, David Rittich, you must win every game for anyone to feel any good about the Flames's goaltending. No pressure.

Big test for Rittich tonight. That's a deep team over there that can come at you in waves. Looking forward to seeing how he stacks up.

Gonna be a big test. Maybe the biggest of the year for the flames.
This is the first true measuring stick game where they aren't starting with a disadvantage by having smith in net (sharks)
The Jets could win the west. Flames need to show they can play with them and carry on with the energy from the past two games. And show that they can get on a roll.
Want to see rittich solidify himself as the 1a and relegate smith to spot starts on back to backs and against lesser opponents.

Yeah, of course one loss doesn't mean anything. It's all about his play and giving the team chance to win.
Also, don't want to set people off or anything. But at some point, Smith will play again. And it doesn't mean anything about Rittich. It just means he's one of our goalies, and will play hockey games sometimes. Best come to terms with that now.

Want to see a good start, solid effort on home ice. Play with speed, try and dictate the play. Good measuring stick game.

Stay out of the box. The Flames are pretty good at not taking penalties - it's extra important tonight.

This has never really been an issue for the Flames: Calgary is 9-6-1 lifetime vs. the Jets. Even in a disappointing 201718 season they posted a 1-1-1 record against these vaunted Cup-pretenders.

I think this will be an excellent game tonight. I hope they bring the passion that we saw against the Oilers on Saturday night, I know it won't be as pumping and nuts as Saturday in the Dome, but I think this will be a great game to watch.
I think this will be another game that Rittich will show why he should keep getting the starts. He deserves it and is the better goalie right now. I really hope this happens and he showcases everything he is made of with a performance good enough to let us compete with a top team like the Jets against some elite talent.
GFG, 4-3 win in OT.
Bennett, Backlund, Gio and Dube with the goals. Bennett in OT.

I am concerned that this game will be blacked out in BC. It shows on SNE, SNW, SNO on my guide, with the Canucks on SNP and SN1, and "NHL live coverage" on SN360.
It's super crappy that every market in the country has the choice between these two games while we in the Vancouver area are force-fed the Canucks.

I don't put much weight into lifetime records. (honda centre excluded)
This is a new year, new coach new system for us.
And the jets are a cup contender, Hellybuck is a very good goalie and I don't think you can rely on historical records to really tell who has the advantage from one game to teh next.
Both teams are fresh and neither had major travel involved, should be getting the jets best which gives us something to measure against.

Yeah, sure, of course... But I want to see a win! Got to be able to win against the big teams, against real contenders to be a real contender.

Yeah. Which is precisely why I pointed out that a significantly worse Flames team still came out of their season-series with Winnipeg last year dead even. Both teams collected just one ROW, and the Flames outscored the Jets 86 in three games.
