If you were Joel Quinnville, would you take the Oilers roster, or the Penguins roster? ...Because right now, those seem to be the two choices.
SideNote: would you rather live in Edmonton or Pittsburgh?
SideSideNote: would you rather work with Chia or Rutherford?

I will never pity Oiler fans again after the summer of 2017. Most ignorant fans around.

I'm not so sure about that. Honestly as an objective fan ask yourself how many wins this team would have without McDavid. If they didn't have McDavid I would guess their record would be 2-17-1 seeing he's factored in over half their goals. Draisaitl rarely ever scores unless he's playing with McDavid. That's how bad the rest of the roster is. He's not a great head coach but he's not nearly as bad as the guy standing next to him on the bench (Gulutzan) and he simply doesn't have a lot to work.

Would you rather work for Katz and his team of ex-Oilers or Mario (and Ron Burkle).

I think Katz is one of the few owners that would pay a coach quenville money. On a side note, it's amazing how good the Islanders became with the addition of Lou and Trotz.

Remember when they were up 2-0 to the Ducks how unbearable it was? It makes this all the more sweeter. I also remember Oilers fans on HF starting threads titled "Is Gulutzen the new Eakins" when he was HC of the Flames. I cant wait until he is named the Oilers interim coach so that thread can be bumped. It will be poetic.

After the weekend binge of pure, concentrated Chiadenfreude, I almost feel like I've overdosed...and yet between this site and HFBoards, I'm shoving that needle deep into my veins again and again.
I know it's not going to be like this all the time, but for all those countless moments when we had to endure dummies in the media, brainless fans that forget about previous seasons like they're the guy from Memento, silly trolls who sign up for an account pretending to be Flames fans like they just invented a new tactic that hasn't been done a thousand times before...I'm going to enjoy every delicious minute of this peak no-goodness.

Yes i remember well. They were talking a Dynasty and Cups in 2017. They said PC was the best GM in the NHL lol Larson and Klefbom were top 10 Dmen. Yep hopefully Glue Gun is named Oilers coach soon.

I do see it as a coaching issue. It is a roster issue. Take away McDavid and you've got arguably the worst roster in the league with no forward depth, a poor blueline, and now apparently goaltending issues
But go ahead and fire another coach! That's worked so well every other time.

Debrusk last night was talking about the Oilers and all their supposed firepower on the power play. Why is this myth perpetuated? They have one elite player and one very good one, along with another forward who is about the level of Backlund offensively. They have no decent point man and then they stick Chiasson in front of the net, which is fine, but not exactly a high skill position.
Their fail is that they can enter fine, with McDavid carrying, but once he's there and didn't score on the rush, he's no better than the top guy on most teams. And when he kicks it to the point, teams can relax because they aren't doing anything with it.
Calgary's powerplay isn't good, but I take the personnel over Edmonton's first unit. Gaudreau can distribute as well as McDavid off of a cycle. Monahan shoots at least as well as Draisaitl and they also have Lindholm who is a hybrid of Monahan and Gaudreau. Gio is way better than their defencemen and Tkachuk versus Chiasson is laughable.

And Chia has messed it up so badly that a new GM can't fix it either.

The best part is that contract is horrible for everyone other than that Lucic is going to get paid.
Its completely immovable. It would be insane to buy it out and I cant even imagine what the structure of a potential trade could even be other than something equally terrible.
Lucic and the Oilers are stuck with each other.

Hes just acknowledging what everyone already knows. Maybe hes the least delusional Oiler?
And ultimately I love the fact that everyone still seems to believe that this is the same magical Oilers team that almost won the Cup (except they didnt and came nowhere close) but the only problem is that between then and now MacLellan has forgotten how to coach.
Yeah...thats the problem.
It wouldnt have been that he was never a really good coach to begin with? And maybe Chia has never really been all that good of a GM? But really, look at that roster.
Its abysmal.
Defence is atrocious. Goaltending has potential but you can only hang 'em out to dry for so long, and the forward depth is awful especially when you have your only good players playing on the same line and then are just hoping the rest of them dont stink the place up while McDavid catches his breath.
