That almost makes me pity them.... almost. Then I remember their fans and I don’t pity them. They deserve it.

Haha! Stupid Oilers.
|
Imagine the following to get a perspective on what a Lucic buyout would feel like in each year as an Oilers fan.
Using previous Flames players that we didn't want to play for the Flames the following year just to compare the scenario of a cap hit today to a player that hasn't played on the team in those number of years.
Imagine the Flames still having a $625k cap hit today because we wanted Kotalik off the 2012-13 team or so we could have a 2013-14 team without Rene Bourque.
- Cap hit of $3,625M today to have a 2018-19 team without Glass
- Cap hit of $5,625M today to have a 2017-18 team without Bollig
- Cap hit of $4,125M today to have a 2016-17 team without Raymond
- Cap hit of $5,625M today to have a 2015-16 team without Setoguchi
- Cap hit of $625k today to have a 2014-15 team without Stempniak
- Cap hit of $625k today to have a 2013-14 team without Comeau
- Cap hit of $625k today to have a 2012-13 team without Bourque
- Cap hit of $625k today to have a 2011-12 team without Kotalik
They'll still be hunting Chiarelli down in 2027 if he buys out Lucic.

Exactly why I think Chia has one more big trick up his sleeve. The finale.

I was actually nervous when he got the gig with the Oilers, thinking that maybe he would be competent enough to instill real change in the organisation. Seems like nothing but a weird fever dream in hindsight. I hope he stays on for a lot longer, and that he gets to be the one who finally has to trade McDavid. Man what a show that would be.

I can picture McDavid's press conference at the Edmonton airport on his way out of town
"I promised Drai I wouldn't cry..."

I know their forward depth is bad but their defensive depth is Home Depot display toilet level. Lol, this honestly makes me laugh knowing that the issue with the Oilers is that they’ve sunk big money into a few forwards and lack offensive depth
They curse at Chia for being an idiot with the way the team was built but instead of suggesting a viable solution, Oiler fans want to trade up their defensive depth and throw even more money at another big name forward and make the problem much worse
That’s like suggesting the best way to put out a fire is to douse it with a jerrycan of gasoline
I can’t even fathom how idiotic these fans are

I have to imagine the Oilers have called Quenneville but he probably looks at that roster and sees what we all see. I'm sure he will want to wait for a better opportunity. I do feel that McLellan may be getting a pink slip soon as they will want someone to walk the plank and firing the GM in November isn't going to make a difference.

The day Quenneville got let go they probably called him immediately. Im going with he declined too cause they would of fired T-Mac on the spot if Quenneville was open to taking the job.
Now the question is does Sutter come and take the job if Todd gets the pink slip. He is rumoured to be open coaching any Alberta team.

Why would they need to hunt him down, did he leave his office? He'd probably be promoted to some fancy title vice chair role by then.

Jesus, all McDavid had to to do was not attack Backlund.
Now, if your leading scorer was sucker punched by a fourth line goon, then you could complain but that didn't happen that game. Oh ####, it did. Just wrong team Bob.

It's hard not to feel bad for the fans, having to watch that one and a half man show up there. Then you get to read all the comments after we play them and that pity disappears in the blink of an eye...

I don't know if either Quenneville or Sutter would be up for this type of absurdely difficult challenge at this stage of their respective careers. It's not like any of them have a single thing left to prove.

Uggh what a mess. I had high hopes for Chia and McLellan but as per usual with this franchise, they've been dashed. Chia's track record speaks for itself here. And there are coaches around the league doing much more with less than McLellan has to work with. Let's start over. Again.

T-Mac is the Brian Elliott of coaches. Good stats led to his hiring but it turns out that was only because he was on a really good team.
