Here's the quote by Friedman:

Quote:
13. American Thanksgiving is another critical point on the NHL calendar. Since the NHL expanded to 30 teams, 78 per cent of those in playoff positions as of that date reach the playoffs. As a result, teams have a better idea of what they are and what they need.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-patrik-laine-finnish-league-theory/

i believe some follow up on this was done, and the teams that did manage to get in were only 2 points out of the playoffs at thanksgiving. If you're 5 points out, you are done.

I don’t really want the Oil to make a bunch of changes
Don’t get me wrong, nothing can save them, not even changing coaches
I just really enjoy all the suffering the current situation causes their fans.
Is this wrong of me the feel this way?
There must be a word for how I feel
A single word that could somehow encapsulate my slightly sadistic enjoyment in their misery

I do too. Let’s just save this tweet for when Chia gets punted & the Gretzfest takes full control of operations.

One post from an Oilers Fan:

Quote:
Hey .... Joel Quenville ... would you like to coach the Oilers? No, we don't have any wingers. Yeah that's right our offensive depth is pretty bad. Well see the thing is, our D is kinda crap. Goaltending is a bit of a questio ....

Hello ...

Hel ...

I think your phone cut out. Joel? Are you there Joel? Hello?
LOL.

Draisaitl's reaction to scoring tonight.

When you score a goal but remember you're still an Oiler.

Lol, Oilers fans already talking about Hughes like he's their birthright. The sad reality which they know is true though is they've wasted 200 years worth of lotto luck and will pick some plug at 4th overall who plays 60 career games, all as an 18 year old.

How is it possible that some Oilers fans actually hope for the transition from TMac to GG behind the bench? How do they not understand that GG is one of the worst coaches still employed in the league? I mean, when Treliving hired him there were still some faint hopes that he could be a functioning coach I suppose, but looking at the last few years and then comparing the on-ice product of the Flames under Peters compared to GG speaks volumes. Many of the lot even pay as close attention to the Flames struggles as we do the Oilers, so they have seen his impact up close and even had a lot of laughs about it very recently. How can one under those circumstances possibly draw the conclusion that Glen Gulutzan would in any way improve ones team?

I have actually seen some Oilers fans talking about trading Nurse+ to get Nylander and the $7 to $8M cap hit he will come with. Yikes.

I know their forward depth is bad but their defensive depth is Home Depot display toilet level. Having nearly $30M tied up in 3 forwards, depleting what little defensive depth they have, and ignoring the fact their goalie can't stop a beach ball right now is actually a legit topic of discussion right now.

When you get into desparate times/diversity in management, you can end up making tactical errors because you either want change for the sake of change, or lean towards conservatism and a "riding out the slump" mentality. The fine line towed very poorly by the Oilers.
