To be fair, I have heard something similar - trade Matthews - from a few Laff fans recently. They seem to be focused on getting a top end #1 d-man (doughty?) plus, plus, plus. This would also possibly get them out of cap hell. They are concerned with his injury history.
If Matthews waits until Jul. 1 and goes RFA, would you drop 4 1st rounders on him at $12 for 7 yrs? I think a number of teams (PHX at the top of the list) would.

He's 21 years old and their best player as well as being one of the best young players to come around in some time. Why on earth would they trade him to keep Marner or Nylander who are more complementary players?

Because Laff fans are cold from saving their places on Yonge St for the parade and need to blow some hot air?
They see a Lindros-type deal (only better).
There is also some fears:
- he gets an offer-sheet of $12-13 per that the Laffs won't match and all they get is draft picks
- Or they match and are in cap hell for years (they still feel the sting of the muskoka 5)
- he is injury prone and misses chunks of games (Laff fan perception).
- Nylander won't return what they really need
Just the messenger on this, repeating what a few Laff fans have speculated on.

That would definitely be a game changer for the Flames.
Calgary would have to take back only prospects/picks for Frolík, Neal, Brodie, and Stone + earmark at least 6 million for a quality goaltender. (in the event Rittich doesn't pan out)
What is your problem? This is a hockey forum and he clearly did his research and provided numbers on the cap. He posted in a Leafs thread and didn't insult anyone.
Honestly, this forum is getting really difficult to read on a daily basis. Let people post what they want as long as its somewhat relevant. At least this sort of thing sparks conversation on the board and he seems to enjoy coming up with hypothetical scenarios... don't we want passionate fans on here? Not sure why you need to be the thread police here. Oh, and if you think certain posts about hypothetical situations waste your time... newsflash.. we are a bunch of grown men and women posting on a hockey forum without using our real names... not like we are really utilizing our time incredibly well as it is.
Mods need to do a better job imo in making this a fun forum again instead of everyone always having their panties in a knot (myself included at times). Anyone who posts an opinion different than the majority gets absolutely crushed, which is becoming ridiculous.

Guess I just get tired of reading horrible, improbable pie in the sky trade proposals each and every day in a thread where I hope to see more actual rumors or even more reasonable, probable proposals. Even if the speculation were more believable it would be more tolerable.
That's fair. I think it's just easier to block posters whose opinions you don't necessarily value.
It's the middle of the season and there is never a lot of rumours around this time. As for me, I personally think hypothetical situations are great and reading about them kills time for me... and then I chime in by creating my own roster on the notepad of my phone (which I don't always post). Different people enjoy different things so we should be more aware of that. Just my opinion though.

In a world where Hall gets traded for Larson, eberle for strome, and Hamilton for a couple picks...a lot of things are more possible than you might believe.
There's a lot of trade proposals I think make sense that other people think are crazy. And vice versa. There are so many ways to think about and contextualize a trade.

Toronto will match any offer sheet to Matthews. End of story. They will make it work. Suggesting that Matthews is squeezing his knees in excitement at the thought of forcing Toronto's hand so he can play in Calgary is ludicrous.
While I agree that everyone should be able to post their own opinions, it does seem that as soon as any news breaks about any player, people immediately post (often ludicrous) proposals about that player ending up in Calgary ,often signing for less money that he's demanding from his original team. It does becomes a bit tiresome.
But you are correct.

Ultimately you're right and I'm just being crusty. Those posts are all in good fun.
