Not Calgary, but other teams in general. Calgary shouldn’t do it for other reasons as other posters have mentioned in the thread.

The cost of the offer sheet sets the market however. No one should pay beyond the value of a 1st, 2nd (Kyllington) and a 3rd (Rychel).
Why would you overpay, iif another team could sweep in with an offer sheet and pay less?

So you’d be happy with literally any goalie we could get for below $6M?
Great.

That’s flawed logic IMO. Nylander’s trade is higher than that. It can’t be an overpayment if multiple teams are willing to pay it and I think there’s a long list of teams that would line up to deal a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Nylander. In fact I’m sure theres a long list of teams that would pay more than that. So no, it’s not at overpayment.
The cost of an offer sheet does not set the market for a player’s trade value. Your premise is incorrect IMO

Toronto's players are always over-hyped in the hockey media, and overvalued in trades (especially with Calgary). Draft picks are the only things Calgary should ever ask for in trades with Toronto.

Sure, Auston Matthews will not have any loyalty to the Leafs either for one of their 'home town discounts'. Trade him to one of the California teams (because that's where he's from)
Build some packages around these defenseman...
Drew Doughty
Jake Muzzin
Alec Martinez
Brent Burns
Marc-Édouard Vlasic
Erik Karlsson
Justin Braun
Cam Fowler
Hampus Lindholm
Josh Manson
Brandon Montour

Not calling you out specifically because I see this excuse tossed around a lot, but it really doesn't make sense to me.
"will almost certainly disappear in the playoffs".
Is that really a reason to not acquire a player? Especially for a team that has won exactly one playoff round in the last 14 years? It's speculation at best. Nylander has 8 points in 13 playoff games which isn't terrible production.
Maybe we should just worry about making the playoffs in the first place and then go from there? Good teams succeed in the playoffs because different players step up on different nights.
Focusing on players that have had playoff success is how you end up with a $4.5 million dollar Troy Brouwer. Nylander has the ability to take over a game and he's a young player. He will get better with experience.

To be fair he's got 12 points in 14 games with the Amerks this year (according to EP), so I don't think he'd command $8m+ per year. Maybe a first to the Sabres, or one of our D's?

For those of you expecting a goalie trade before the TDL, I think you are fooling yourselves.

Are you confusing the two Nylander brothers? We’re talking about Wee Willy Nylander in TOR not his younger non-NHLer young brother Alex
