Steal billions of dollars from a different more gullible city?

The IOC is Lyle Lanley and we’re Springfield. Edmonton is clearly Shelbyville.

Just tell us your idea and we’ll vote for it!

We have two cities left on shaky grounds. The IOC could be left with none.

I agree that the Bidco did a terrible job - their inability to come forward with a cohesive plan ahead of time did them in.

Whether those other venues deserved those upgrades or not... McMahon still needs to be replaced or revamped, a field house is still needed, there still has to be a city contribution to a new Hockey arena... I'm not sure that gets done for less than $350m in Calgary taxpayer contribution. Difference is there won't be capital from the Feds or a bump in tourism to help pay for them.

The numbers were mentioned above. The city was willing to put in 250 mil for a 5000 seat arena and some upgrades for a 2 week party. That's what the Flames are asking for for a new arena for 30 years.

Federally and Provincially - I think the funding is pulled since they didn't get a Yes Vote.

Even though I flip flopped a ton about it and like the arguments for both sides, I can't help but feel a little dissapointed.
It's too bad they couldnt get their ducks in a row for this. Whole thing felt like such a mess from the start. And those yes political ads made voting yes feel so sleazy like they were trying to trick you into it rather than give you facts.

So I'm dissapointed with the result but mostly because the whole thing was so poorly put together from the start. Can't blame people for voting no

Agreed, and if this unlikely scenario were to play out I wish the City and Bidco would admit that the Olympics are not going to earn us a huge profit, be honest and explain why this will cost some money, but it will be worth it.

Would have loved to have this same vote on the downtown library, or Farrell’s bridges.

Taxes going up tomorrow have nothing to do with the olympics. And hosting would have only made them go up more.

Funny twisting of the numbers there.

I would be shocked at an appetite for blowing money on an arena after this.

And Calgarians turned around and voted No. There is no money coming for a new arena or stadium.

You mean the bridge that is insanely popular with pedestrians and tourists and the subject of many photos representing Calgary or the world class library that we are lucky enough to have in our city?

How does this keep getting bigger 400 million was in the bid for new facilities. Apparently this included a 300 million dollar field house and a 250 million dollar arena included in the 400 million budget line.
