Was going to vote No because I don't trust a lot of the information that was provided but ended up voting Yes. Just a gut feeling, enjoyed 1988 immensely and 2026 would be nice to look forward to. At least we have most things in place already.

You are reading his name wrong, he's a fan of the Iowa Flames while being a Calgarian. I can see where the confusion comes from.

In the event of a NO decision from Calgarians and an inevitable retraction of a bid, I hope the City has an alternative vision for the future to put Calgary on the international scene and become an even more attractive place to live and invest. And I hope that vision is supported and with input from the movers and shakers of the NO vote. And I hope that vision includes how Calgary is going to pay for the same upgrades and maintain our athletic training facilities over the long-run, which is something we are going to need to continue to maintain long after the Olympics.

I can't seem to find this either. All major news stations have articles from yesterday about the vote, but no details on where to go looking for results. I wonder if we'll actually hear the result today if it's just one announcement of the final numbers.

I voted yes because both my kids want to volunteer and experience the games like I did in 88.
My 7 year old daughter took a selfie with a "Yes" sign and sent it to my family group on Whats App this morning and changed 3 votes from No to Yes.

My feeling is YES win will be resounding, and we will be on the hook for one really expensive two-week party.
Hope the 10:1 promise pans out.

Well I just voted in Varsity and they must have bussed in 200 seniors.....
That doesn't help the Yes vote for sure.

Probably not as informed as I should be, most of the 40+ crowd I’ve spoken with have voted no. Rationale being that the games will be happening in Edmonton and Whistler? All Ive heard is that there are no events or ceremonies taking place in Edmonton and that Whistler will have the ski jump only as the infrastructure is already in place and quite expensive to build here (which I have no issues with). Am I correct or are the boomers onto something that isn’t common knowledge

Tongue-in-cheek, but considering one of the most popular threads on this site is E=NG, we need to get it just to troll them. They'll be even more greater No-Gooders after. Lols.

There was an early idea to have the games split between Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton it was scrapped pretty early in the process though.

Which is why we're going to get screwed!
Old People know the score, they're all going to vote yes because they're not going to be around when the bill comes due and they'll be laughing at the rest of us from beyond the grave!

I find it kind of funny. I was watching Brainchild the other night and one of the exercises they did was to have people spend $5 on a raffle ticket, and then later somebody would come by and offer them $10 or $15 for that raffle ticket. Nobody would sell it. Not even to pocket the extra money and go buy another raffle ticket. The reason I thought of this is, even if you're on the No side of this, why wouldn't you just vote "Yes", and then AirBNB your place for 2 weeks and reap the rewards, and then move to Airdrie or Okotoks if you don't want to be on the hook for any cost overruns.

I think I've settled on the no side.
I think the risk and downside of potential cost overruns outweighs the upside. I won't be angry if the yes side wins, but I certainly won't be disappointed if we pass on the Olympics.

I was undecided until today.
Taxes and costs always seem to go up.
There will always be criticisms of the use of taxpayers money.
Public officials will always be accused of corruption, lies, deceit.
If we voted NO, will all these problems go away or get better?
If we voted NO, would/could the money for the Olympics be spent more effectively on something else? Or is that just a safe default fall back position?
I want something to look forward to.
Entertaining out-of-towners, getting tickets for events, buying a new Canada hoody and toque. Creating new memories with my family.
Canadians, and Albertans specifically have a great legacy of volunteering and stepping up when needed. See Humboldt Broncos, Fort Mac fires, Calgary flood... I think we have a pretty good opportunity to show off Calgary, Alberta and Canada.
I'm willing to take the chance on this being great, so I think I'll be voting YES today.

Given how much money the hotel and tourism industries are pumping into the Yes side, you can expect Airbnb to be banned in Calgary by 2026. And that's only half a joke, they aren't pumping all this money in so we can profit off Airbnb's.
