That's core.

Hanifin does not turn 22 til the end of January.
Agreed that he is a core piece, moving forward.

Adam Fox has 12 pts after 5 games, leading all NCAA players in pts/game

The goalie is obviously anyone's guess.
Brodie and Hamomic will be UFA's so it will be easier to leave them exposed and still be able to potentially re-sign them.
If Kylington busts onto the scene and shows some promise at the NHL level it might make things a little more debatable on the backend.
The top 6 forwards to protect are pretty obvious but there is still one spot up for grabs IMO.
|
It’s tough. Might have to go the 8 skater route.
Gaudreau
Monahan
Lindholm
Tkachuk
Giordano
Hanifin
Andersson
Valimaki

Who cares . Lindholm is going to be the best player in this deal by a country mile. I would have traded ferland and Hamilton straight across for Lindholm. Getting a young steady top 4 dman also in the deal is incredible.

I don’t think Fox being a dominate NCAA player is surprising to anyone. He’s a great prospect, who was looking to leverage his NCAA dominance into choice of where he plays.
Sucks to have that be the route a prospects like that choses to go, but pretty good to be able to have that end up contrubute into the acquisition of players line Lindholm and Hanafin.

For sure, but to me the sting came from not wanting to sign in Calgary, not from trading him after that was known.

Agreed, it was always the part of the deal that gave me pause. And even if he doesn't sign, there's a chance Carolina could trade him for something substantial. Having said that, I really like Lindholm, he's far surpassed my expectations and still growing. He's going to be a star for this team for years to come.

Ferland and Hamilton both scored last night.

If he goes 4 years Carolina is getting jack. Maybe a 4th rounder to a team that thinks they can sign him like when buffalo gave a mid pick to the Preds for Vessey.

I'll believe Fox is the real deal when he shows up to a training camp and looks like he can keep up with NHL skaters. I seriously question whether or not he can skate at that level.

I think you're right. Which means we're going to lose one of Bennett/Jankowski/Kylington to Seattle unless we make a deal with them.
On the bright side, in two years, Andersson and Hanifin will only be 24, and Valimaki will be 21. I think Hamonic is ultimately going to re-sign here (especially if the Hamonic of the last two weeks is the Hamonic we get moving forward).
Barring a precipitous Gio decline, the Flames should be fine. Though it will be awful to lose a 6 ft 4 225 lb 26 year old centre.

Fans are funny.
We acquired a 23 year old 1st line talent, with a strong 200 foot game. Who shoots right, can play RW or C, and is good on the dot. And he arguably enters the debate as to who our best forward is.
We also acquired a 6'3 215 lb 21 year old defenseman who can skate like the wind and has almost unlimited upside.
And people fret over a college kid that may or may not have the skating ability to be a good NHLer.
Amazing to me.

I think a better solution is to protect 7 and 3 and make a deal with them not to take Giordano (or whoever).
Also, it is a long ways away and lots will change before then. SO debating it at this point is pointless.

Agreed, not questioning the deal at all since it seems clear he wasn’t going to sign. It will still piss me if IF he becomes the second coming of Brian Leech or whoever.

Yeah, fans are funny. They can love the deal and still lament what could’ve (might’ve) been.
