The last three games have far exceeded even an optimistic fan's expectations after the previous three game debacle. And although the Leafs seemed disinterested, the Sabres seemed pretty dialed in and I felt the Flames were just better.
Yes the PP2 is a disaster but I put that in the category of fine tuning if we see more efforts like this.
Next game won't be easy. The Avalanche are likely pissed after blowing the lead in last game to the Flames. Another good measuring stick game IMO.
I was at a sportsbar watching with my colleague from Buffalo--it wasn't the best game to watch without sound! I really want to know what was being said during that waved off goal....but who cares, we won! Yayyyy!
Goal was waved off due to a whistle. The ref behind the net lost sight of the puck. Peters challenged and lost. Refs should probably not be positioning themselves in places where they can't see a puck in the crease, but whatevs.

Everything you said is correct, except it wasn't a coach's challenge. You can only challenge for goalie interference or offsides. The NHL initiated the quick review.

Hey! I have been a lifetime sabres fan but have not really watched hockey since 2010. I'm interested in trying to understand more of the nuances of the game. Anybody have any suggestions on what I should keep my eye on this game?

That's why I want Botterill to go D in the draft. Right now, the Sabres have Guhle, Borgen, Pilut, Samuelsson, Bryson, and Laaksonen in the organization, but none of them have the pedigree of a player like Valimaki (maybe Pilut, though he's older). Would love to see Botterill add two first round defenders and stack the organization. Imagine having a third pairing with the potential of Valimaki and Andersson.

Calgary owned that period. Our defensive lapses were many and just stomach churning. I’ve never wanted to get out of a period quite like that one.
Calgary is very skilled and disciplined. They did not make many bad plays.
Sabres – too many penalties that period. Looked out of sorts and did not skate well that period. Hutton has saved them thus far. We could easily be down 3 – 1.
Eichel took a bad penalty. Frustration at the end of the 2nd. Needs to reign that in. Can’t have the Captain arguing with the refs…especially after the period ended. He still has 1:09 left in his penalty for the 3rd. Arguing there doesn’t help his cause.

All he had to do was drop it back to Eichel on the 3 on 2. Instead he selfishly skates it into the corner turns it over and leaves Jack alone with a 2 on 1. That’s just inexcusably bad decision making, Dahlin should have been out on the first power play in OT Risto and Jack just flat out don’t play well together.. Oh well the game was lost before that when we failed to get it out of the zone several times

After watching the disallowed goal nonsense, I'd hate to think peter's comments yesterday have reignited the Wideman effect. Those refs are a sensitive bunch.
