I still feel that had we gone after a top class goaltender instead of using 1st rounders to bring in players who weren’t goaltenders we’d be better off now.

We’ve grossly underestimated the importance of a bonafide top tier goalie. To your point we only have to look at Kipper himself and how far he took us.

But he's easily the best defenseman on the team, and he does a ton of work around the community.

I've been pretty generous towards Smith and was a supporter of bringing him here originally, but he's not passing the eye test at all. Team has packed it in now obviously, but he simply doesn't have what it takes currently.

At what point do people wake up and finally point the finger at the most over-rated GM in franchise history??

Gets worked on trades (even by Garth Snow), makes ridiculously terrible UFA signings, and can't find a good coach or goalie despite switching them up every couple years.

You don't win in this league without good coaching and goaltending, and the over-rated one has yet to deliver both in any season he's been here. He can't pass GM 101 despite several attempts.

Was handed a pretty good situation when he got here and has failed to achieve anything of significance with it.

But he's good at RFA signings and he talks a great game, so there's that.

That's tough to say, he certainly leads by example as far as work ethic. I don't believe he has the ability to carry the team on his back deep into the playoffs though like Jarome did, but that is pure speculation on my part.

That's true but it's not like Smith was great. I just don't get how fans were so hard on Elliott yet Smith is getting a pass from some for playing much worse than Elliott did. Look at the stats. Elliott was at least NHL average. Smith stats this season are basically in Jonas Hiller territory. He looks like a goaltender that's at the end of his career.
