The hit was to the head, but to be fair it didn’t look at all like he elevated or intended to hit there.
Good win Flames!

I knew the spotters took him off. What I wondered was whether the spotters stopped him from coming back. Since Peters knows nothing that likely the case (since he didn't just send word back to the room for Johnny to relax).

That hit on Gaudreau looked late to me and he had no reason to hit him. He basically blindsided him. I think McAvoy knew exactly what he was doing.

Helluva game. Really like how Frolik came out an animal tonight. Says a lot about the guy, his skill, and the leadership in the room.
Gotta echo a lot of Bill Peters here too. I can legitimately say that Bill has been a very big factor in our games so far. He really knows how to get things going back in his direction.

It wasn’t an accident. McAvoy was pissed he got beat by Johnny and came back and clocked him in the face with a blatantly intentional elbow.

McAvoy gets beat sliding on the ice. Principle contact to the head. Late hit. Elbow to the head. Suspension worthy? 2 games. Similar to Matheson's suspension.
But on the flipside, doesn't do the Flames any good if he gets suspended, as they play the Oilers and Canucks next...which leads to my biggest beef with suspensions. They should invoke the following:
1. Suspend the player only when they play the same team again. If it takes over a season or two, or more, so be it.
2. Give the injured player's team the option on which games to sit the player out.
3. Combination of both the above.
By no means the above are perfect but it's the gist of it.
Thoughts on this?

How much time was left? The tests probably take about 10 minutes

10 minutes or so game time, so 20-30 minutes real time.

The last 10 minutes flew by because the Flames were just controlling the puck...barely any whistles
Wasn't JG on the PP though?

Yeah, that's true. Keep a good thought. He certainly looked fairly good skating away.

I hope McAvoy gets a game, appeals so he can play tomorrow and the suspension upheld the next day.

I believe the protocol is that the concussion spotters in NY have the power to pull any player out of the game if they see an event occur that may have caused a concussion. Once pulled off, that player is not allowed back into the game until cleared by the league concussion protocol team and the team's doctors. So, based on this, I would imagine that regardless the outcome of the examination, the team's doctors will recommend he remain out of the game considering the score at that time and the time remaining.
I think Johnny will be okay.

Penalty came with 11:31 left in the 3rd. A bit concerning that he didn’t come back.

Wasn't a fan of the hit on Johnny, but it is sort of funny how indifferent I am as to whether or not the league suspends him or not. A suspension really doesn't benefit the Flames, in fact it is sort of detrimental given who Boston plays next. I would rather McAvoy be playing in order for the Bruins to put their best foot forward against our division rivals.

And looking at that clip again, it wasn't. Johnny wasn't fishing for a puck and it had fairly obviously rebounded in fron of McAvoy to the boards. Johnny is spinning around off balance, McAvoy not only hits hi, he lifts an elbow up and keeps elevating through the hit. He in fact throws his weight into it - his leg flies up because of that.
He wasn't surprised to be running into Johnny and put his arm up reflexively. He actively throws it out at him.

Agree with the post except for this part...it doesn’t help that JG is a bunch of inches shorter and somewhat looking in his feet for the puck while spinning around.
McAvoy really doesn’t lift his arm at all, just extends it a bit. Problem is that it means that, given the height difference it’s right in the side of JGs head.

Gotta be off the ice for a minimum 20mins as per the protocol. Since it happened around the 13 minute mark he wasnt going to be back.
