I can’t imagine the media running away with this one like they did with Petterson-Gate.

I love how Valimaki poses in pictures. Just looks like he knows things.

Conroy seems like the kind of guy that would be awesome to play a game of shinney with. Pretty sure he wouldn't shut up the whole time.

Crap, does that mean they didn't allow him back (as opposed to the team saying "take a break - we got this". Suspected concussion?

ETA- or does it mean they just took him off the bench? Confused by the tweet.

It means the NHL themselves are saying it was a headshot. Player safety will be taking a hard look at that

Eric Francis @EricFrancis
Gaudreau left the game late at the request of a concussion spotter, following the late hit by McCoy.
Peters had no update and "hoped" he'd be okay.

Loved the game, fun to watch. I don’t have much of an issue with the hit, tbh. It was quick, and honestly with the commotion of the play, I wouldn’t expect that McAvoy would see Johnny didn’t have the puck. The hit was to the head, but to be fair it didn’t look at all like he elevated or intended to hit there.

Good win Flames!

Yeah the league forces the player to get off the ice, go to the quiet room and take the tests.

Well they were up by 2 and he was being targeted this game. It could easily be the team

Headshot? Check.
Late? Check.
Avoidable? Check.
Suspension? According to precedent, check.

Like the Matheson one, it’s a tough one. McAvoy is coming back to look for the puck and JG is shifty and a bit out of control, somewhat defensless, and turns into McAvoy, who reactionary then gets his forearm up and right into the head of JG which is the tough part. But like Matheson, was there intent to injure? No.

But if the same rule applies in general as what happened to Matheson, MCAvoy should get the same. Good luck with that though. Young marketable star on an east coast team vs a vet scrub in FLA.

Loving the third man cycle.

1-2 forwards pressuring the puck (and have been doing amazing) and the third high man is rotating around ready to pick up a forced puck off the wall or the middle. It kept us in the zone probably 5-8 times each period tonight.

It's also a great way to utilize our mobile D. I think it really interrupted the Bruins transition and limited some of their chances off the breakout.

It’s a tough one for a dman IMO.

Puck is still loose near the crease after a big save. A millisecond before the hit the puck goes right past Gaudreaus skate - at that point McAvoy is just making sure he takes the man and clears the front of the net.

Easy to say after the fact that he shouldn’t be making a hit there, but a much quicker and tougher split second decision on the ice. Personally no issue with trying to play the body there...if it’s a clean shoulder check.

Coming in elbow high and targeting the head is what is 100% unnecessary IMO. Any time an elbow/forearm makes principle contact with the head it should probably be a suspension.

Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
Peters on the McAvoy hit on Gaudreau, didn't see it because of the ensuing line change happening on the bench: "I know the league is trying to crack down on that stuff to protect star players, to a certain degree. You want to come to an NHL game and see the marquee names."

Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
Gaudreau left the bench as per the NHL's concussion spotters. Peters: "That's all I know. Hopefully, it's nothing. Hopefully, it's minor. But we'll see."

#Flames taking a recovery day off tomorrow so we'll have to wait until Friday.

I think Johnny is fine but regardless, that hit needs to get punished.

They took him off the bench for the league mandatory test.

Peters didn’t know the results of the test.
