The crazy thing is that they made it in spite of there being much more competition this year. Last year, we looked at Kulak as the best option on the third D pairing. Now he's been traded for a couple of depth AHL players that will likely never play for the big team. Looking at how almost every single line has been upgraded, including four of the bottom six and at least one member of the second and third D pairings, you see just how abysmal the Flames' depth was last year; outside of the top line (and to some extend the second line) and the top D pairing, the rest of the group was just one step above the Oilers.

Agreed, definitely a good situation for him.

I'm a bit bummed about Kulak TBH. While not flashy, I thought he was at least steady in a somewhat difficult role. Glad the Flames have moved him and he'll get a chance to play with Laval; suspect they will eventually move him up to the big club. I guess time will tell.
Excited to see the kids out on opening night however. This sends a GREAT message to those toiling in Stockton: keep pushing. We'll make space if you're good enough!
And I do like that!! We may not set the world on fire this year, but I have the feeling that the club will be fun to watch, fast and furious, and will have a lot of great games. So far, cautiously optimistic.

Cool. I was hoping Dube would go with 29. It should be worn by a guy with a 4-letter last name.

Kind of wish I was in Vancouver, especially with the snow here, to see the two do their solo laps.

4x2 is 8. Solid choice, Valimaki.
I was sure Dube was gonna take 22.

Darn, I don't like either number choice.
39, 91, or 22 for Dube would have been better.
Was hoping Valimaki would take 3.

I think Stone is earmarked for Ottawa, and I think we could be setup for 2 happy teams this year.
Bold predictions have floated the idea of Mark Stone deciding to lead the team in a rebuild. What would make that more fun? Your brother. On the Ottawa side, this turd of a team could at least have a fun story and a look to the future with a very good 1st line RW already there.
They don't have a ton to offer, but Duchene is going to be moving this season one way or another. I don't know how he fits on our roster, so I'd imagine this has legs more as a 3-way trade with us grabbing picks. I'm also not going to predict what needs to be added on either side to make it work, but those are 2 pieces I can see moving.
Saying all of that, that's how I see Andersson in this role. I'm jacked to see Valimaki here, and think he's absolutely deserved it. However, I think Andersson had an edge in camp and they'd like him up here.
I think Hamonic needs to show a more physical game before we can afford not to have Stone ourselves, but I think this is a trade we can make.

Mark Stone loves Ottawa so much he chose 1 year instead of 8.
I'm thinking he's told his brother to stay away.

I think a lot needs to be done for Mark Stone to make a decision to stay, but I think this could be a 1-year 'show me' contract... for the Ottawa Senators

Show them what ? He is a consistent 60 point player, who is elite defensively.
Edit.... maybe I miss interpreted and you mean Sens got to show Stone.

So who are the Flames sending down? Did I miss it? At this point, Lazar and Andersson are the options.

Andersson not at practice, so I think thats that.
Weird that Lazar wants to leave but they're keeping him (apparently).

I'm surprised that Lazar wouldn't be sent down to play. He even said he would like to get a lot of ice-time in the AHL to re-invent his game.
