I hate preseason hockey, especially when the Rookies play. I know it's good for them so they can develop but it can still be dreadful at times watching them. hopefully next game we can get a dub.

Feel bad for goalies in the pre-season. Seem to have more pressure than others. One bad game could spell doom.

Takes longer to catch up to the pace for goalies than players. Not the way he wanted to start, I’m sure they’ll give him the next game to get that out of the way.

Yamamoto looks like he's been taking cherry picking lessons from McDavid.
Difference is he isn't good enough to get away with that against NHLers.

No he's right.
Rittich might be the #1 by seasons end...in Stockton or Kansas City.
Dude is not anywhere near ready for prime time though...at least at this point.

Gillies both last season and in China showed he has lapses but then bounces back and holds the fort the rest of the way.
Not ideal, but it's better than what Rittich has shown us since pre-Smith injury.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Neither goalie has looked great in their one start a piece. The big difference may be that Rittich will get more starts than Gillies and thus given more time to work it out. Gillies maybe gets one more start max. Not much of a chance to prove anything.

Man, Rittich has the chance to grab the bull by the horns and completely blows it. I’m guessing he was left behind in Calgary to be “the guy” and prove he was the #2. Oh well, at least we’ve got other options.

I think we'll have a bounce back game against Boston IF Gillies can actually play well. I also think we could squeeze another win against Vancouver later that night, I just think Rittich had one of those bad nights. Parsons probably in net for the next game against Vancouver though.

I mean, I'm not going to draw any conclusions from preseason games... but maybe it is finally approaching time for us to move on from Sigalet? He's got the reverse Midas touch.. Hiller... Johnson... Elliott... the more time spent with him the worse our goalies have tended to get.

I thought Gillies looked like a developing goalie with upside.
He let in 3, quickly, but he bounced back and made a number of key saves during important moments.
I'm firmly in the "let's roll with Gillies and take the lumps as he develops" camp.
Goalies don't just magically "pop". They have their ups and downs, and I think Gillies is worth sticking it out with.
(Rittich had a rough game. I thought Dube and Kylington looked good).

So, no. Rittich has not "completely blown it." He had a bad first game of the pre-season, which is something that happens often with NHL goalies. He still has two weeks to prove that he belongs. Tonight's game and the outcome doesn't mean much, especially for a returning vet like him.

I like the way that Phillip's plays the game. He was more than proven he can play in the mans game. A year in the AHL will do him good.
As for the PTOs I was not impressed. Falk was the best of the lot.
Valimaki will need a year in the AHL which is fine. Let him develop.
Kylington and Dube were the best two prospects.
Mangiapane, Foo and Quaine had a lot of hustle but no finish. They will have to show more next game if they want a shot.
Lomberg gives a great effort. Not a great skill set but he did well in his role and killed a few penalties.

Powerplay Quarterback

I hope Rittich will bounce back next game and he usually play better after bad game. Today he was a little off. Next game will be good test for him.
