The amount of community interest in the inferno doesn't really necessitate any airtime... End of the day Rogers is a for profit company and they need to sell advertising and I can tell you most people who listen to sports radio would choose to not listen to an hour discussion of the Calgary inferno even once a week, meaning less $$$.

If a woman can come on the air and be funny, engaging and insightful about topics that matter then i'm all for it, but diversity for the sake of diversity is not what we, the radio station or anyone needs. Talent and potential talent should always win out and should be the only things that matter.

I honestly don't understand who the audience is for Francis. He was talking about the Olympic bid with Pinder last week and his defiant ignorance on the subject was embarrassing. He didn't know anything about the numbers or the budgets from previous games, but scoffed at Pinder when Pinder cited them. Francis' sole source of information seems to be whatever he gathers from playing golf with rich jocks and business types.

Which the Flames really want in mainstream media. Your average CP user tends to know the ins and outs of the team on and off the ice. But there's a lot of fans in the city that don't really know much, Francis can bend their ear quite easily, especially on business matters.

He doesn't need to know anything himself, he just has to convincingly convey "What helps the team is best for the fans and city".

I don't understand the hate for Frances. He's a breath of fresh air for the know it all generation we are moving into. If people want to stat for stat and analytics I'm sure there are plenty of places you can go now. But I'm personally okay with the idea of someone using their own personal opinion.

That's interesting, as while I like Pinder, I actually like Francis as well (I know, I know - he's a blowhard, but that's his schtick, and yes, he was VERY wrong about Mony, but is actually a decent guy one on one.).
Anyway, some of the things Pinder was saying Friday were hyperbolic and wrong as well.
For example, Pinder was stating our taxes will rise. That is not necessarily true. We do not know if federal funds are simply being re-allocated here, instead of put elsewhere.
Hearing points from both sides is important to have a reasoned determination made on this.

You're free to like whomever you want.

But I personally feel he does not have the pulse of the team, nor any insights or insider information to offer. Therefore his takes don't have any more weight than your average joe, so why would I tune in to hear them?

I don't care for Francis because he oversells his level of knowledge and speaks far too authoritatively on matters in which he clearly has no insider information (see: Monahan, Boudreau, etc). He will take any opportunity to trash the team, including on national television, which gives the Flames a bad face to fans who don't follow the team as closely.

Frankly I consider the guy a hack sensationalist and I have no respect for that style of journalism.
