Also, just spit-ballin' here...But is it too much to ask for a female personality? It would be awesome to pluck a talent like Leah Hextall out of Wpg to get some airtime. Let her host a 10-1 show. Would be a good start.

CP's own Mango should be given a shot. She does radio for 660 News and covers some sports for Sportsnet.

didn't realize there was so much jim rome hate in here.
I almost always turn the radio off instantly when they do the local content stuff outside of flames (and sometimes stamps) would rather get cbs sports anytime over the local interest stuff Kerr used to do. Maybe that makes me a bad person but I actually just can't stand 90% of the local interest stuff they do.
I don't think there is enough happening in Calgary to carry an entire 24hour span without needing filler from other sources

This is all fine, but that doesn't make Rome good radio. I have Sirius, and would much rather listen to Dan Lebatard, or find Dan Patrick on Podcast, or 100 other forms of good sports talk than what Jim Rome calls 'entertainment'.
Hell, flip to X92.9. It's better sports talk than Jim Rome.

Maybe it's gonna take them a few weeks to find a new groove, but man the morning show has been awful. They need at least one person in that studio who follows hockey as closely as the average CP member. Two guys can still play the buffoon, but somebody has to actually know what they're talking about to give the show some balance.

To each their own I suppose.
Rome is actually quite well informed and despite having too much orange ball toss talk I would argue that he is in fact seen as good radio by a large number of people as he is allegedly the highest paid sports radio personality in north america, which means someone must like him.

He's a time machine to 2005. You can skip listening to the show for a year or two, tune in once and hear the exact same sound bites and topics discussed that you heard last time. That's been my experience since I got tired of his shtick a long time ago, at least.

That's the reality of North American sports media. Fall has baseball playoffs, NFL season, NHL, NBA. Winter NHL, NBA. Spring NHL, NBA, NFL Draft, MLB. Summer MLB, golf, tennis, NFL training camp. The schedule repeats every single year. You can tune in on any random day from 2005 and chances are on sports radio that same day in 2018 the same teams and sports are being discussed. The only thing that changes over the years is the athletes being discussed and differing performance of teams from year to year.
You think 960 is discussing different topics today compared to this day two years ago? It's mostly about Flames training camp, a little Stampeders, and any time they may spare on the NFL or MLB.

I'll sometimes listen to Rome in my car on the way to lunch because the radio is still tuned to 960 from the morning. It's usually the segment where he reads texts/emails from his dudebro fans. And I have no ####ing idea what they're talking about. Ever. It's an unrelenting stream of baffling, cryptic memes. Read in Rome's mannered dudebro voice. I can usually take about 3 or 4 minutes before I turn it off.

Let me guess. you dislike Jim Rome so much because you once tried to get onto his show but your take was basically as strong and well thought out as "half the world is below average..." and you got run so now you have a personal vendetta?

No. I used to be a fan. But its been the same for 20 years. Boring and repetitive.

For me the Rome show went downhill when Travis Rodgers left
It became more shtick than substance when he departed

At the risk of sounding sexist, I second this call for more diversity on 960. It would be nice to have a female perspective on sports, or even an advocate for female sports.

No kidding. We hear nothing of the Calgary Inferno. Like zilch. Had to look to make sure they still existed. Is there not an opportunity to fill in that gap with coverage from the women's side of things as well as a differing perspective on the nhl team. Then have said female host overlap for an hour with the big show guys for debate/discussion. Just more diversity which is what they need.

I enjoyed Jenna Woods' show as well. If I remember correctly, shortly after an abusive call made it through, the plug was pulled, and never was a woman's voice to be heard again on 960. I'm guessing the crowd that keeps Rome on the air decided that women are too gentle and fragile for radio.
Since my schedule no longer allows for Rome listening, I managed to tune in for the first time in years a couple of weeks ago. I take it as a point of pride that I made it through 20 minutes before turning it off, and no sports talk occurred at all. It's the worst impulses of the morning show, taken to 11.
