Treliving sure likes his Swedish d-men.

Andersson
Kylington
Hogstrom
Ollas Mattsson

brought Grossman and Murray in on previous PTOs

now Svedberg

Seems like more of a replacement player for Stockton if one of the prospects makes the jump. Can't see any way he makes the big team.

If he has a good showing for an NHL position, who becomes expendable?

Giordano - Brodie
Hanafin - Hamonic
Svedberg - Stone
Kulak - Andersson
Kylington - Välimäki
Hogstrom - Prout
Healey - Ollas Mattsson

After the top 4 (which is obvious), I'd really like to see a bottom pairing of Valimaki-Andersson and Stone as a 7th who rotates in. The rest of those guys would be AHL depth or occasional call-ups on a contender.

I don't understand why people view Stone as a 7th D. He is a very serviceable top 6, who can easily spell in the Top 4 if required. I get the excitement of the prospects, but I see Andersson/Valimaki having a higher potential of rotating.

I totally agree with you. I am excited about the young D guys in our system also but to just stick a veteran in the press box who is a solid bottom pairing guy doesn't make sense. Unless of course other players are in fact clearly better and deserve that spot. Stone also provides some grit and snarl that most of our team lacks.

A career minor-leaguer from another organization suddenly jumps into our top six ahead of one of our own from last season, who acquitted himself well, and above three of our top prospects? I wish people would have more faith in our own players and less on the fake new car smell spraying in the used cars being brought in.

FlamesAddiction suggested Svedberg as a potential PTO earlier this summer.

He is huge. 6' 8" and 240 lbs. I could see Treliving giving a guy like that a PTO and maybe an AHL contract to start.
This looks like a pretty astute move by Treliving.

People like you probably called Deryk Engelland a career minor-leaguer in 2009–10 too. (His 7th year in the ECHL/AHL)

I think it makes sense from an organization stand point, to increase numbers from a particular country. It means, when they are face language and home differences, they have someone familiar to talk to that knows what they are going through. Even the American players, they have a commonality having played together in the US system, and that makes them more interested in going to a team or signing long term.
