Eagles could pay Cox because Wentz is on his rookie deal. Same with the Rams as Goff is on his rookie deal although it appears the Rams are heading into cap he’ll in a couple more years. Raiders had a great 2014 draft getting Mack, Carr, and Jackson and couldn’t pay them all. It’s never a great day when you lose a player like Mack but I’m of the opinion he’s not worth the money he got from the Bears as the Raiders defense was bad with him and the majority of his sacks came against 2nd rate QB’s as in 20 games vs elite QB’s over his career he has registered only 3 sacks.

QB, Pass rush and offensive line are the 3 pillars of a successful team in this age of the NFL.

And a QB who was exceptionally good on an entry level deal.
Mitch Trubisky is only one part of that equation.....entry level.
Flacco and Smith are both more important to team success than Mack could ever be. Simply undeniable.
Its far to much money and asset cost for a team without an established or elite QB.
Doesn't mean he isnt a worthwhile investment as far as improving the team he plays on...only saying he wont make a whole lot of difference for that team because of so many other holes on the club.
He will make life difficult for the opposition at times, that is undeniable.

Exsctly, thats why you see stories on the rams window being open now for 2 years
Cause thats when goff has to get paid
Or why the seahawks have had their defense go from the top to mid level at best, cause russ got paid
Or why denver has been going so cheap on qbs since they have monsters on d
You cant have both
The most advantageous time a team has is if they have a top tier qb on a rookie deal, or a veteran who breaks out later in his career, like the vikes last year
This signing puts a clock on chicagos window, all that matters now is if trubisky can get to that level

Yeah I think next year and the year after will be the Chiefs chance with Side show Bob at QB. If he can hone his talents than they should have a pretty good offence. But losing out on this year's draft hurt the defence too much for them this year.
I remember when the Chiefs traded Jared Allen. They picked Brandon Albert a Jamaal Charles with the picks. So they got two guys who made pro bowls out of it. So if the Raiders draft well this could pay off.
Even the Jags have this year and than they won't be able to afford the defensive line anymore.
No one seems to be able to win with an average 20 million dollar QB.

Bell still a no-show.
So glad when he's gone. Great player, but the off-the-field circus is tiresome.

Would be no circus if Steelers paid him his deserving contract.

meh. They offered him a 70m deal with 33m in the first two years or so, I'd say that was quite an offer for a running back. Now there's different reports as to how much guaranteed money was in there, but still, that would have been a big commitment to a running back. Bell always says he wants to be paid like a 1RB and 2WR combined, I don't see how that is smart GMing in a cap league. People can point to Gurley and his contract, but he's younger with less mileage and he doesn't come with the injury and marijuana concerns either.
People here argue that signing Mack to that contract was a mistake. I'd argue that I'd much rather overpay a pass rusher than a running back.

Are the Bills running some con we don’t know about? Why after naming Peterman your starter (dumb) would you bring in Paxton Lynch for a workout (really dumb)?

Hearing rumblings that Bell is going to sit out until he has to play so his contract doesn't get tolled. I think that is week 9? Pretty crazy if true.

doubt it. He'd forfeit 850k for every game he's sitting out, and Bell doesn't strike me as a guy who would do that. Still think he'll report at some point this week, but at this point I think they'll primarily go with James Conner in week 1. Bell was rusty as hell early last year and he's sitting out even longer this year, so it makes sense to see what they have in Conner either way. He was really good in preseason (doesn't mean a lot, I know) and they all seem to have confidence in him to be an eventual starter, so we'll see.

Good for him. Only play the bare minimum to accrue a contract year and go FA next summer. I don’t think anyone decent will pay him what he wants but get that money man.

He wants that guaranteed big money though. And the less games he plays the less likely he gets hurt.

Also Alex Smith get's no respect. He was a top 5 QB last season and people in the media think a rookie is going to step in and be as good or better. Just goes to show how bad the media falls in love with shiny new things.
