Ok, point taken. Everyone dives, including England (who I don't necessarily give a crap about...I watched one game and it seemed they didn't dive so I thought "neat").
What I guess gets me is less the frequency of dives and more the ones where the guy makes it look like he blew his achiles or snapped his femur. How is that not embarrassing as a fan of the team?!?
Anyhow, I'm probably derailing into a conversation had a bunch over the last 40 pages of this thread. Go Belgium!
Looks like Cavanni isn't going to be able to go for Uruguay. I think their only shot against France was for him to duplicate what he did against Portugal.
I don't think Argentines are too keen to see that tiny country next to them do better than their local squad.

Don’t put your studs on another players ankle when they are on the ground, on an ankle he has been injured with. The way people are discussing him is like he goes to the ground every time he gets in the other teams box. Just non stop bitching about him. He’s too quick and too fast so he gets fouled 10 times a game. He Overreacts but hes 99% of time actually fouled. Oh well, let’s have another 5 page discussion about how Neymar is a disgrace and ruining the sport.
People wondering why I don’t care about his antics is like asking Bruins fans why they don’t hate Marchand. I’d rather him not do the extra #### but I could care less cuz he always delivers in the Brasil shirt, Almost second in Brasil scoring by the age of 26 will make any Brasil fan tolerate his antics.
Honestly it's not like it's just Calgarypuck that is talking about it.
It's literally every soccer website, most media pundits, other forums that I frequent that have World Cup threads, it is everyone and they aren't just doing it because they have some bone to pick with Neymar. The only people defending him are other Brazilians and fans of the Brazilian national team.
The guy does get fouled a lot, and it's not that he goes down like's he's been murdered on every play, but he has made an absolute meal out of almost every foul he's taken at this world cup. It's one thing to go to ground easy - that happen's in every game, in every league around the world - but it's another thing when you have literally spent 14 minutes rolling around on the ground through 4 games. He's past the point of just exaggerating to draw fouls, he's now feigning injury to try and draw cards.
Great player but disgraceful play acting performance at this world cup and it's not even arguable at this point.

^^Yea but the constant whining about changing the rules is exclusive to NA threads that mostly include fans of american sports like the NFL. No one in european threads does that.
Talk about a sport that really needs major rule change, how about one that actually takes 4 hours to play and has about 10 minutes of actual play like the NFL.
How about no stop in play, disallow passing, call it rugby and finish the game in 90 minutes.

Ultimately the same criteria applies to both:
"Why change? Its working."
They are both immensely popular and profitable sports just as they are, so whats the incentive for the powers that be to change them?
People can bitch and moan and lambaste the game around the world. So long as the TV stations still pay the subscription fees and TV rights, etc.

I'm active on German and English forums. You're wrong.

Have you been in the NFL thread in recent years? We bitch about this constantly, it sucks and we all want it to change. If it is true that no European threads advocate for rule changes, then by default they are advocating that Neymar-style antics are ok. Because you're never getting rid of those antics without rule changes. Public shame is not enough of a deterrent when possible victory is the reward.

I used to be a fan of NA sports other then hockey, they just got worse and worse over the years, where soccer has become better. I remember watching series A Italian soccer in the 80s-90s, the EPL these days is loads better then that. Even when you compare world cups, the soccer today in Russia is miles above Italia 90.
They made a few minor tweaks like adding subs in the 70s and later on not allowing the back pass to the goalie and it made a big difference. By the way, the simulation was way worse back in the day.

Right, but today's athlete is so much better than the athletes of the 80s it's not even funny. That's why it's impossible to compare today's athlete with athletes of the past, if athletes of the past had personal chefs and personal trainers, hyperbaric chambers and private jets, they would probably have been miles better too. The overriding point here is diving is revolting and there are definitely ways to curb it. Whether any initiative is taken to do so, we'll see. But it will require rule changes, public shaming is a meaningless deterrent.

Soccer will never be a 'real' sport over here when you never know how much time is left in a half or a game. I doubt that extra time board is right 5% of the time.
It's not just the athletes, when you watch Georgie Best playing back in the 70's by October he was trying to dribble a water soaked leather ball weighing an extra pound or so across a muddy quagmire that most local Recreational Department these days would close down as being unusable.
