It was impressive what he did, and it looked like whoever he played with benefitted from him. His NHL time, he didn't look out if place, but with the linemates he had and icetime he was given, he wasn't able to do much pointwise. I think he can be a descent player.

He played almost exclusively on Jankowski's line. Most commonly with Versteeg as the other winger, and then with Hathaway (forming the line he played with in the AHL). He averaged over 15 minutes per game. He also got PP time. That's not horrific for a rookie callup. Of course, it was only two games.
I think the bigger complaint was that he didn't impress at camp.
Also "decent".

Put him with some veteran SKILLED players for 10 games and let him have a chance to show what he’s got....

Again he hasn’t earned anything let alone deserve anything, he looks great in AHL and looked meh in the nhl. I’m not saying he couldn’t force his way onto the roster but I see all these posts lately about this guy and that guy desrerve a spot and imo opinion no one on the farm has forced his way into a spot as of yet.

If Mangi can't win a spot in camp there is nothing wrong with him going back to the AHL and trying to repeat his dominance.
He did end his season with an injury, and only played 49 pro games last season (39 AHL / 10 NHL).

After the first period of NHL play, he looked great for several games and was getting some looks, but tailed off in the last few. Hope he can bring a sustained level of play this year. Potting one wouldn't hurt either!

I'm confused somewhat, which is unsurprising.
https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/...es=2017-2018:R
Has eatbread playing with Janko and Hathaway only 25 percent of his even strength time with the flames. He was with stajan and Lazar for over 50.
I think I might have got confused somewhere but he had ten games, mostly with shoddy linemates. I don't think he did much to force the flames hand and keep him around but I agree he was by no means terrible.
I don't know what else the guy can do to deserve a shot with the flames (and better linemates). We can't get excited by Czarnik and long to trade for sprong, when we have someone with similar/better numbers in the system. I mean, what's Brouwer done to get on the team? Same with lazar.

That happened exactly 0% of his time in the NHL.

I wasn't that impressed with his run with the Flames last year. Think Foo was better in his cup of coffee. That being said, young players can grow a bunch in the off-season

Foo got top line duty
Yeast Mode got scrubs
Mangiapane has earned a spot imo and could be a good fit on our new 4th line of Ryan and Czarnik

Foo also played with Johnny and Jankowski, Mangiapane played lots with Stajan, Brouwer, Hathaway. Did see some minutes with janko however but not very much.

eta: this page can't possibly be right - posters are correct - he had 10 games. Weird.
I've seen stuff on dobber that makes me not trust their numbers any more.

I get the earning your time and working your way up mantra, but you also have to utilize players to their strengths. What the hell was Mangiapane suppose to do with a couple of 4th line grinders? It was incredibly stupid of GG not to utilize Mangiapane on the powerplay when he was up. Not like there were a whole lot of better options.
PP and top six scoring role is what Mangiapane was doing in the AHL, so why not utilize him the same way in the NHL? It's like training a worker for one thing and then getting him do another thing when you promote him. GG was just setting Mangiapane up for failure.

This is a product of the Flames system though.
Down the LW we already have two extremely high end LWs not likely to be displaced in Johnny and Tkachuk. Then there’s Bennett who is likely now a left winger too. And all of a sudden, now we have some great RW depth after seasons of wishing for it. So he can’t just switch to his offwing as a natural LW.
The problem with this situation is that if Andrew truly needs skilled players to succeed, that likely won’t come to fruition on the 4th line. I imagine he might be getting viewed at as a trade chip soon unless someone moves. Maybe Frolik gets traded, but even then it looks like the most he’d get is 3rd line duties at best. Maybe Ryan and Czarnik are his teammates instead of our current offerings, but if they don’t buyout Brouwer or trade Lazar then I doubt it.
I think last season showed Treliving the days of having a crash and bang 4th line and hoping to win a Cup are long over. You need speed and skill to succeed more than ever now in the modern NHL. Today you want your bottom line to be very good in their own end and have enough skill to chip in offensively. The Flames are sure as heck not going to get anything offensively out of anyone serving 4th line duty with Brouwer, Hathaway and Lazar. All 3 were, outside of one hot streak for Hathaway, invisible on the scoresheet throughout a full 82-game season.

I think Foo is the closest Heat forward to being an NHLer. Though I bet even if he's better than Lazar/Hathaway/Brouwer, he probably still goes to the A cause of the new depth and the playing meaningful minutes argument.
What I found that made Foo more effective in his stint was he simplified his game more and went to the scoring areas without hesitance, whereas Breadnoms was kinda still playing his AHL game during his.

Foo was playing with Gaudreau, Bennett, and Shore.
Mangiapane was playing with Stajan, Lazar, and Hathaway.
