All I'm thinking is, the PK is going to be absurdly powerful this season. Between Ryan and Janko it's going to be a SH chance bonanza.

Who knows what the hell Staufffer is connected to, but if that's him leaving money on the table I shudder to think of what he was gonna get from other teams.

The way Peters talked, it sounded like Ryan was also a winger option that can take faceoffs. So overloading the lines ala San Jose might be the plan given the way Lindholm has been discussed too.

High risk, medium reward - assuming 3 years at >3m.
Our centre depth is truly horrible so he's needed. Jankowski, Shore (rfa?), Bennett are not good enough (yet).

With his underlying numbers and 38 point season AND being a centre - I saw Ryan coming in at 3.5-4M.

At the end of the day you always pay a bit of a premium on July 1st.

Since when is our centre depth horrible? Monahan, Backlund, Jankowski are top 3 right there?

I think Lindholm is up there as well.

So Ferland on the top line drops 21 goals and is a modern day hockey deity in Calgary but Mark Jankowski in 4/5ths of his 1st NHL season drops 17 goals (lead the team with 2 SHG) and is not good enough. Never change CP.
Janko is a big part of this roster in the positive.

Jankowski and Bennett are not there yet, and Backlund is more of a 3C on a good team.

The playoff bracket would disagree with you.

If he has a couple steady years with progression he will be a top 6 core player.

UFAs always get paid more than fans want. I’ll say 10-11 mil over 3 years. And I’m ok with that for a guy that can move up and down the lineup.

I think this is a huge, huge factor as well.

He can centre the 4th line and help make that line effective, but if injuries occur he can slide onto any line. Seems to have the offensive and defensive ability to contribute in any situation.

He is a defensively responsible RH shot centre with a good face off and around a 0.5 PPG average. He is signing to a new team at free agency. You might have been hoping for under 2.5, but that was never going to happen.
