I could be wrong, maybe the team has its fair share of malcontents, but to me the leadership group seems kind hearted enough to welcome them in.
I'm not so sure about that. This is more then just giving someone a second chance for a mistake they made. This woman literally went psycho on the team captain's family and wished the death of their unborn child, got her wish, then literally blamed the mother. It's more then just 2 people who didn't get along, but "hey let's give them another chance". When you wish ill on someone's child, that's a whole other tier of avoidance.

I don't doubt the Flames' families are all good people and would give a second chance to a couple under the right circumstances. But this is a whole other level of drama. The top of the shelf. As we are currently witnessing, the Sens are about to lose their best HOF franchise player, and a top line player over all this.

I think the Flames and their wives, if asked the question, don't touch this with a 100 ft pole.

After everything the Stajan family went through, and how the entire team rallied behind them then, and continue too now, along with all the charity work they do under the Emerson Stajan Foundation, I highly doubt any of the wives, or players want anything to do with the Hoffman drama.

Hoffman isn't ditching a fiancee because of a trade possibility. And the likelihood that he says, after 10 years "I was totally fooled - we're through is also pretty slim." IMO the most likely outcome is that the pressure dies down over the off season, he's a pretty late trade and the acquiring team assures its fans that Hoffman and his fiancee have put all the negative stuff behind them and are going to be solid citizens. And, if they are smart, the pair will keep a super low profile.

An awkward trade would be to one of the teams with the wives that commented on this situation.

So, why does Caryk think she’s been accused of harassing the Karlssons?

“I’m asking the same question you are,” she said. “I have no idea. Melinda and I weren’t best friends, but we weren’t enemies. We were civil. I honestly have no idea. I’m asking the same question you are.”
Uh huh... no one legally accuses someone with whom they "were civil" of doing stuff like this for no reason whatsoever. "I have no idea".... riiiiiight. That doesn't pass the smell test.

Don't think that article helped their cause. If I was accused of something I didn't do in a scenario like this (close friends/teammates) I am vehemently denying it not asking what proof they have. Right away it should be what to you need to prove it wasn't us.

Something is just not right about this whole thing.

Well sure, people falsely accuse for many different reasons.

The details of this situation are interesting to me. Was this all online? Were some comments in person? Did mrs Karlsson confront Hoffman’s gf? How did the other wags know? How long did this go on for? If everyone knew why wasn’t something done sooner?

Is it possible Caryk is an innocent bystander and it is Karlsson’s wife who is the crazy one? It’s not hard to imagine the queen bee of wags getting other woman to create a toxic relationship for Caryk by spreading lies about her.

No matter what this is a horrible situation all around and if the accusations are true, Hoffman, if he knew, and Caryk are scum.

The complaint only refers to online. and it says it went on for quite some time.

Well until there is some evidence shown by the Karlssons we can't say can we?

A few hockey wives chiming in on the situation is not proof.
People can be cliquey as hell.

The fact that it's taken so long for any concrete evidence to come out about this makes me more than a little suspicious regarding the validity of the Karlssons' assertions.

I sort of feel compelled to properly comment, but honestly there isn't much to be said that hasn't already been posted more elequently by other users. This seems like an uprecendated situation that is by and large fuelled by social media, which obviously comes with a lot of positives but simultaneously facilitates the nasty stuff we're seeing right now.

Personally, I find it hard to believe that you could be with someone for as long as Mike Hoffman has with this woman and not at least witness a glimmer of the crazy we're all now seeing. I think people are kidding themselves if they think this doesn't affect his trade value in the following months. While the NHL is a business, there is no way a competent GM is going to take all of this baggage on for full price and inject it into his locker room. I fully expect Hoffman to land in a city that has as minimal media scrutiny as exists in this league, and even then it's going to be extremely challenging to insert him into that group.

It was recently filed and we are the general public.

It’s unfortunate enough that everyone knows about allegations instantly. I really don’t want the general public combing through evidence in an on going case.

I thought this line from Caryk was a bit bizarre:

“I got a horrific email from a girl named Taylor Winnik, and I believe her husband plays in the NHL, saying that I’m a horrible and disgusting person, accusing me of writing negative stuff about the fact that Erik and Melinda lost their child,” Caryk said.

Seems weird to me to say it like that. Like obviously she knows who Taylor Winnik is, and is well aware this guy plays in the NHL. No "believe" about it.

Seems like she was trying to downplay the relationship there, and the meaning of her sending an email like she isn't well connected with these people, and distancing herself from the inner circle and that this is some kind of random attack.

That's just how I interpreted it. Trying to be understanding of both sides, but it seems telling the way she is trying to paint this as completely random, and unprovoked. Even if Mrs. Karlsson is the crazy one, there must be something that would make Caryk the target. That part cant be completely random, even if there is part fault.

Don't buy the response.

I dunno some people will overlook a lot of crazy to stay in a relationship.

And if the allegations do turn out to be true, and Hoffman was in fact totally fooled then I think a breakup would seem likely as she's endangering his paygrade and how willing teams would be to acquire them as a couple.

You don't think she would be at least "aware" of who she is. I would think the inner circle is pretty small. Winnik is a well traveled player. Would seem odd that Mrs. Winnik would completely unprovoked email this lady without any standing relationship.

Maybe I'm off base there?

Well Taylor Winnik does have a TV show to promote.

Comments from Mrs.Turris and Mrs.Hammond make sense.

Why Mrs. Winnik is wrapped up in this is anyone's guess.

Well, the complaint is a sworn statement, and that is evidence in a court. It was filed a month ago and not served. If it had been served, there would be a hearing scheduled at which more evidence would come out.

The fact it wasn't served (yet) can mean several things, including: they wanted to wait until well into the offseason to avoid team distractions; they wanted to see if it could be dealt with without going to court; they had second thoughts about the whole thing, or they don't have a real case to present.

It is dangerous to rely on electronic hearsay evidence if you really need to prove something in dispute.

Similarly making assumptions about how humans will behave by using a rational analysis can be seriously misleading.

https://twitter.com/thestarcalgary/s...30748806385664

Electronic 'evidence' can be faked quite easily. And the truth is often stranger than fiction.

Court proceedings are painfully slow when there is a social media storm around an issue. There really is no way to fully assess this until more information is publicly available.
