How complicated are these systems that it takes pro hockey players a full season to grasp?

Yeah, the new coach means many months to adjust meme is just an excuse. Sure didn't seem to affect Vegas. And the players that get sent to Olympics and World Cup competitions aren't exactly tied up in knots for the duration trying to figure out how to play.

I understand why people may be underwhelmed by hiring another not so proven coach, but when did AV become the second coming of Scotty Bowman? He was given two extremely good teams in Vancouver and NY and never won a cup. There’s a reason New York didn’t want him to lead the future of their franchise, I doubt he wanted to leave.

The vast majority of fans were right about Gulutzan 2 years ago, and a vaster (?) majority knew he needed to go by December. The fact that the majority of fans think something isn't recessarily a reason to believe it, but recent history suggest that, when it comes to Flames coaching decisions, the vast majority of fans know better than the GM.

Moreover, while a sizeable number of posters were correct about the eventual outcome I remain unconvinced that many have accurately identified precisely the problems with Gulutzan and his time with the Flames.

One of the best posts on here. Fully agree and great examples. Let's be optimistic!

Give him a chance and see what he can accomplish. Is that too hard?
Remember the countless times the fans on here have been wrong? Remember when we were all sooooo ticked off that management didn't select Alexei Cherepanov (RIP) or Angelo Esposito in the draft? Or when we all thought the Flames had 3 potential Team Canada defensemen with the addition of Bouwmeester? Then again, last year we thought we had the best dman core in the league?
All I am saying is, if you really truly don't know about the guy (I certainly don't) and basing it on a few posters on CP, lighten up and keep an open mind - Enjoy the weather outside instead of having a bad day.

My favourite was when he'd watch the monitors on the bench at their feet and some posters thought he was hanging his head in defeat.
And I'm one of those people. Its not that hes hanging his head in defeat, he should be rallying his troops.
You've got Gelinas upstairs and Cameron doing seemingly nothing of any use, let your assistants scour the ipad while you talk to your players and get them ready to rebound and come out swinging on their next shift.
How many times did we give up goals in bunches because we'd get scored on and then the next shift goes out and gets scored on again?

Which has way more to do with the players willing to change what they want to do, to what they need to do than it does anything systems related.
Its my personal opinion that the reason for the failures here the last year were player related far more than it was coaching.
Its also the very reason Vegas is doing what it is doing...the guys have all bought in for each other and their city and to be successful they all needed to be pulling on the same rope.
All of these things are contingent on adequate to great goaltending though. That has never been more apparent than the last few years in Calgary, and also the biggest part of what the Knights have accomplished. MAF has been lights out.

I am most interested to know which other Canadian team was making a pitch for Peters. Was it Ottawa? Edmonton? Montreal?
My source said they thought Ottawa. They haven't had a chance to really chat with him, he's been on the move and really busy. They said that Bill actually shut his phone off from it blowing up all weekend with texts and calls. It took him 8 hours to reply to their message to him. I'm sure they will ask and find out who the other teams were. I'll see what I can get confirmed.
I told them to ensure Bill knows that Brodie needs to be tried back out on the right side, Brouwer to the pressbox and any updates on who's getting traded for RW help. I said, if he does the top two, his start here will go much better haha.

Couldn't recall the exact figure, but think it was somewhere between 20-25 games this season where we've had 2+ goals against in rapid succession (which is, of course, completely pathetic and unacceptable)

I think the team knows this is their last chance to really prove they're a group that can contend for a Stanley Cup. Another year of scrapping by and you might see some big names being dealt next year.
