I just wanna address this.

Treliving only knows Peters from the 2016 World Championships where Treliving was co-GM (with Vegas GM George McPhee) of the Gold Medal Winning squad. Their relationship is probably entirely professional, not a buddy relationship as you frame it.

I may be highly skeptical of this coach because he simply sounds like nothing more than a cosmetic makeover to all the same deep-rooted issues we observed the last two years which have caused the decline of this team's confidence and the ability of some of our most talented players to impact the game in a positive way - but accusing Tre of, essentially, nepotism is just off in this case. Of course he goes back to wells where he's had familiarity. Mike Smith, David Schlemko, Chad Johnson, Stone were all former Coyotes too and mostly worked out well for us with some ups and downs. But that doesn't mean he is hiring a guy just because he knows him. He barely knew Glen Gulutzan before he hired him, and I recall he'd never had a working relationship with Cameron. And say what you will but he did sign Bob Hartley to a two year extension during an eight game losing streak.

He's not a nepotistic clown.

He's just a really questionable evaluator of talent.

How about instead, Tre and Burke do some ####ing research and get to know the top end coaches in AV and Sutter and see if perhaps they're better than Peters. You know how we know Sutter and AV are good - its because they've had incredible success with multiple teams.

The chain of logic Elliott is spouting to suggest Peters is beyond stupid. It's basically advocating Tre should look past the garbage track-record and lack of experience of Peters because he knows him. And it suggests Tre should basically discount the amazing track record and experience of AV and Sutter because he doesn't know them.

And if that's how the organization is thinking of this decision internally, it 100% explains the decades of garbage we've seen on the ice.
This is the exact hyperbole that is making this thread unbearable. What I took from that interview is not Friedman "spouting" stupid logic about hiring someone you know. What I took from the interview is that Friedman said he understands Treliving's logic that if this is your last chance and your job probably depends on who you hire, most of us would probably go down swinging with someone we know, rather than someone we don't.

All available coaches have wrinkles....that's why they are unemployed. I don't blame Treliving for going this direction if he does and I am at least willing to give the Peters a chance. I hope some of you will join me in that, this could be quite the offseason and I am glad that GG is no longer part of it.

On the other hand, it worked pretty well for Dean Lombardi in Los Angeles. Burke and Carlyle had worked together in the Canucks organization before they won the Cup together in Anaheim too.

Also, it's not really clear how much Treliving and Peters are "buddies". They worked together once at the World Championships.

I have a good feeling BT will not survive another season here. Hiring his buddy's as coaches is stupid. Yeah he made a good trade for Dougie but his bad moves are starting to overshadow the good. Im impatient and im getting tired of this mediocrity around this team. I sure hope im wrong but im losing my faith in BT.

The Peter(s) Principle prevails once again.

Win a championship in juniors? Promoted. .500 hockey in the AHL? Promoted. .500 hockey in the NHL? Gotta snap that guy up!

Never underestimate the valley between leading 15-17 year olds and leading men. Much like making the jump from juniors to the pros, most just aren't cut out for it.

So why is it different for Peters? At least GG took the team to the playoffs last year, Peters has never come close.

So probably safe to say no other potential candidates were interviewed?

I'll give him a chance. Now please, just hire an assistant that could run a PP

Peters sounds like the exact coach this team needs, everyone who is being negative just need to relax and give him a chance. Tre has a lot more work to do this offseason, adding more scoring for example. An improved roster is really the most important offseason need.

If it is Peters can we at least get Paul MacLean as a assistant? That would ease the pain.

Please just hire someone that knows what they're doing with the PP.

I hope Peters does well, I'm willing to at least give him a few games before I tar and feather him. A decent PP and a decent home record will go a long, long ways next season.

Sutter and Babcock wouldn't have got The hurricanes to the playoffs

I feel the same way as well. This will make or break BT imo if true.

Maybe just asking guys to score 20 more points will be just as effective!

Then he also turned Teuvo Teravainen from a 35 to a 65 point player.

I don't know if he is a good coach or not...but to base everything on the record is dumb. All the coaches that everyone loves did well with solid rosters and failed with sub par ones.

Team Canada has hired the guy multiple times...it's not like BT just hired some guy off the street.
