Long overdue. When you make a coaching change you're suppose to upgrade and not downgrade. I didn't like the hiring from day one but hoped it would work out.

1. Quenneville has already been confirmed to be staying in Chicago.
2. Less than 90 mins before the Flames press release about Gulutzan & co. Bob Stauffer tweeted that Spector had confirmed there would be no coaching changes in Calgary.
Hence, the joke.
Fair. Didn't see or hear what Spector said about Gully.
After Gulutzan was fired, he instinctively looked down to the iPad on the floor to see what had just happened.
I'm one of those people that is nodding at this and not jumping for joy because this is about people's jobs. But being one of those posters that first complained about his 'head hanging' after goals when he first came over, I couldn't help but

The Peters talk is nothing but rumors and speculation at this point. No sense worrying about it until we hear some actual credible news surrounding that.
The 960 morning show has been talking about it a lot recently.
Lately I feel like they are getting fed stuff to help soften the fan base's feelings on certain ideas.
I think the rumors on this one may have some legs.

Heaven help the next Flames coach if he ever consults the on-bench monitor.

Is there a source for this Bill Peters talk? It's frankly a little scary when you look at his head coaching track record at NHL level, 4 years of failure. Seems like the Peter Principle in action...
It's just a rumor at this point but I suppose you can parallel the Gulutzan firing today with Peters having to make his decision by Friday to leave the Hurricanes. Maybe coincidence or maybe smoke.
Let's fire Gulutzan and hire a guy that is 0/4 on making it to the playoffs.
If it is Peters, Treliving should be fired.
Here we go again.
The Canes have had to run on a shoe string budget since Peters has been there, they had the second lowest cap hit this season in the circuit. I get that it's a results business, but hockey Canada wouldn't be bringing the guy to the Worlds if he sucked as a head coach.
Isn't it possible that he's considered a very good hockey coach in a tough market, with sketchy ownership and a pretty turbulent hockey ops group above him?
This guy may or may not be named coach in Calgary, but if he is I'm sure they didn't just look up the standings to make the call.

Darryl can't hear you cuz of the two stanely cup rings between his ears.
I dunno. So many players under his watch wilted offensively.
And yes, they got hot at the right time and won 2 cups, but that team really struggled to make the playoffs most of the time and barely made it as the 3rd seed in the division both years they won the Cup.
But yeah, they had an incredible three year run in the playoffs after they squeaked in mostly.
I was ready for him to go even before Christmas of his first season. But realistically I knew they would give him atleast the start of this season before letting him go.
It's a possibility I suppose if there's no rift between Maloney and Tippett. I suppose though that wouldn't matter as long as Treliving has a good relationship with him.
I'll take a well reasoned analysis over a quick conclusion any day of the week. Anybody can spout conclusions with minimal effort. A comprehensive analysis, even if flawed, brings more to the table and is of much more value.
No. It isnt.
Its just dragging your heels when decisions need to be made.
This is sports and this is Business. Make a call.
We just lost a year of Monahan, Gaudreau and Tkachuk. Was that worth it? Could we be in the playoffs now?
Maybe. We were close before 'The Collapse.'
But you want your slow, measured response?
I'm not advocating knee-jerk reactions, but we had more than enough info on Gully to make a decision, but it still wasnt done. And now here we are.
Are 168 games so much less indicative than 127? I dont think so. A spade is still a spade.
This decision could have been made in November and people would be screaming that we didnt 'have enough information!'
Well now its April, we apparently still dont have enough information and the same steps have been taken.
Except now our players are golfing.
