So McDavid continues his assault on Heatly's career point totals at the WC (64). With already 9 under is belt he is well on his way and hopefully will have many opportunities to add to his totals. Good on you Connor.

He will be the new Ryan Smyth, no not because they whey the look, but because he will lead the yearly wc team over there somewhere in Europe.

I hope he plays in this tournament every year for the rest of his career with the Oilers.

Personally I would like to fire his name into the sun but can we not at least ban the name McDavid after April 1st when he's not playing a playoff round against the flames?

I just hope Eberle ends up on Mcdavids line, and Ebs puts up 10 million points so we can all point and laugh, while all of Edmonton laments what could have been had their GM not been a total maroon.

Team Canada announced their initial 18 player roster for the World Championships today: https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/ne...-worlds-roster

No Flames on the list.

The Czechs also announced that Frolik will not be joining them for the Worlds because he has a baby due in the next couple of weeks.

I believe that leaves Backlund as the only Flame confirmed to be playing, with Gaudreau still undecided.

We can't really be upset at team Canada considering 5+ Flames turned them down

The way I see it, Canada won the gold medal in 2010 IN SPITE OF Luongo. He let in the US tying goal in the last minute of the 3rd period, forcing us to go to OT where Crosby scored, and incorrectly removing Luongo's doesn't-show-up-for-big-games reputation.

McDavid wasn't able to fight off the flu & strep throat for 25 games. If you accept that NHL games are spaced 2 days apart on average, that's 50 days.

Now I'm no athlete, but the longest I've been sick from flu and/or strep throat was 2 weeks, so 14 days.

Any human with an immune system that weak should really be spending all his off-ice time in an isolation room like "bubble boy".

I get that Giordano turned them down but what the heck happened with Dougie? He just flaked out after the season ended and skipped garbage bag day and no one even addressed if he accepted Canada's invite or not... and he was the highest scoring dman in the league, there's no way he didn't get an invite.

He left the last game of the year with injury, might have something to do with it.

Not defending McDavid, but there are some nasty flus & bugs out there. It's the luck of the draw. Several teens died from strep throat on Vancouver Island this past winter. I've been fortunate as are most people, but don't count your eggs before they hatch.

It's disappointing that each of the years the Flames miss the playoffs, they seem to have very little representation especially on Team Canada. As much as I dislike the Oil, the one thing you can say is they step up more in this area than us. Representing the country should be the be all, end all for most athletes.

I didn't know he was injured at EOY. I recall that he turned down Team Canada after his first year with Flames so that he could focus on training for the next season.

sure then again you have to ask yourself if its that nasty and debilitating of a flu, then why the hell are they playing him.

Plus these things, the flu, Strep, are incredibly infectious, so exposing other players and teams to it should get an NHL sentence of the entire management team getting their $$$$$ run over with an SUV.

I believe he had the flu, I absolutely don't believe that it was as bad as they say or lasted that long. the Oilers and the media probably exaggerated it to excuse him when he was playing that bad.

We must protect the CONNA

I know that Monahan was hurt but where would he slot in as a Centre:

McDavid
Barzal
Schenn
O'Rielly
Horvat

all of these guys would have consideration as players for an Olympic tryout at least.

Global news

Top four D and Smith asked...Gio has a new baby, I am assuming the rest declined due to injury. They don't have to give us a reason.

Gaudreau going. Maybe the US can win this thing, haven't won since 1933.
