It's a good thing I have a backup team (Finland) when my home country isn't worth cheering for
Hopefully Hamilton gets a call but if not I'm behind Suomi 100%.

enjoy the rivalry but if it blinds you to enjoying the best hockey player in the world playing for his country, is it really worth it?
save it for the Edmonton is No Good thread I suppose.

I fully admit that I'm petty. I couldn't cheer for Luongo in 2010 and I dread the next olympics when McDick is on team Canada. Maybe I'll just cheer for Johnny and Chucky instead in 2022.

Just like soccer, there is club hockey and national hockey. Completely cool to hate the Oil. But cheering for the red white and blue over Canada because a few Oilers Canucks or Canadiens are on the the team is outright sad

I'll NEVER cheer for the Red White and Blue, doesn't matter who's on that team. If I can cheer for 87 Canada Cup team which had Gretzky on it, I think I can cheer for this team that has McWhatever on it. If he is named captain of the team, I'll just not bother watching.

I bet Åberg, Klefbom and Larsson all comes to play for team Sweden, so the Oilers are a detriment to all of us. I just hope that Backlund beats them all up during practice.

I definitely support Team Canada be it the Olympics, World Championships, World Juniors, Spengler Cup, World U17s, Men, Women, Paraolympic, etc. So I am happy Canada appears to be assembling a strong roster for the Worlds. This tournament is also a bit deal in Europe and counts a lot towards the world rankings.
Plus I care about the IIHF World Championships about 1,000 times more than I did that stupid "$$$ NHL world cup $$$" ....
Maybe just me but, Go Canada!

I don't quite comprehend the "second-rate tournament" complains. Is talent level and quality of hockey in, say, Canada-Russia game is going to be any lower, than in say Flames-Sabres game or any other regular NHL game?

The talent level might not be, but when you watch an NHL playoff game and then switch over to a WC game, the intensity drop-off is very noticeable. I feel like the guys go over partially to play hockey and partially for a little vacation to Europe after the grind of the season. You hear about guys bringing their families and such things and it just sounds like a vacation.

I like it when Canada assembles a strong group for the World Championships. It makes the whole event a lot better and worth attention, not just for Canadiens but for the whole hockey world.
Flames players I would like to see there: Johnny, Dougie, Backs, Matty, Fro, Rittich

Bingo. I couldn't stand it either seeing Loserongo. He should return that gold medal, it's tainted. The guy's a chump.

Gaudreau had his coming out party at the World Championship. After he did so well I was pretty sure he was starting the next season with the Flames rather than the Heat. He should go. Good for him to get used to a longer season.
Tkachuk has a legit excuse coming off his concussion. He says he feels fine but he hasn't gone through hard skating/ contact and there is no guarantee that he would have a clear bill to play.
Riitch should go, would be better if Stockton was in the playoffs, but both him Kylington and especially Anderson should be offering and lobbying to play for their country.
Hamilton is interesting. Does Canada want him without Gio? He wasn't picked for the under 24 team. Is he turning an offer to play for Canada down?
Gio should play for Canada.

I can always cheer for Canada regardless of which player is on it.
As for Textcritic I can see why he takes his position ... he’s a Mod and you know Mods they are like the Goalies of the forum world , needed but they are just a little off.

So they announced Peters as HC. He's been a name floated heavily for Calgary.

I assume they won't be announcing a full roster because they'll leave some spots for guys who get eliminated in the first round.
We know that Giordano and Hamonik turned them down to spend time with their new babies, and Monahan isn't available due to his surgery recovery.
Hamilton is probably the only other Flame under consideration, but we don't know what his injury status is at this point.

Just like the last Olympics I will not watch this. Especially when the only thing that will be discussed during the games broadcast is McDavid. They will have a McDavid camera that just shows McDavid on the bottom right side of the screen.
The Oilers are going to 100% at least give McDavid a standing ovation in their season opener for McDavid's heoric achievement in this loser tournament. Will give him a montage and have several players from the 80's reciting how good he is in the background.
